we have had more of an issue with ticks the last couple of years then usual and this season they seem to be worse then last ( i've already pulled three off the dog and two off myself ) was wondering what you guys do to prevent and avoid them but still get to enjoy the outside thanks chris

I think my dog has only had 3 in her 9 years of wilderness travels but one of those was this week.....man do they take some removing !!!!!

Ticks were worse this year than I have ever seen. There were seven of those little deer ticks under the strap of one sandal one day this summer.
Going back to long pants and my little Shortie gaiters when hiking overgrown trails after screwing around with shorts and sandals a few too many times this summer. Was getting tore up by briars all the time, anyway...

we used to spray boots & lower pant legs . wear long sleeve shirts even in summer spray shirts with off before going out. back at house ,strip down & check each other for the devils. you ca'nt feel the bite & they will stay on & keep eating.1990 i got a bad disease called erichen caffiensis or something like that spelling. lost 15 lbs. was in hospital about a week.doctors said it could only come from ticks. i had forgot about a tick 3 weeks earlier that wife removed from my back. my brothers ranch has a million fire ants & we have'nt seen a tick in 3 years.

Based on most things I've read; permethrin is pretty safe when applied to clothing and allowed to dry (4+ hours). Never apply directly to skin.

Either it works or there are no ticks in oklahoma's tall native grasses.

It's still probably a good idea to tuck your long pants into your socks and wear long sleeve shirt tucked into your pants

Here in NY it's worse than ever. I was off trail in Harriman state park and brushed at least a dozen deer ticks off my pants. They are struggling for survival this time of year.

I've read where a blob of liquid soap and a cotton ball will remove them. Apparently they suffocate because of the soap and let go of their own accord !

Bug dope and Tick Tweezers. Eatin garlic is supposed to help. They dont seem to like me very much.

if you look for ant, roach & spider spray in the garden department at WalMart or wherever you should be able to find spray with Permethrin that's much cheaper than the stuff sold in the camping department in smaller cans. :D

They can be a problem. I get more ticks when wearing long pants than I do when wearing shorts once the weather is warm enough. They like the dark, so they will go under the pant leg before they burrow in under the skin.

Once under the skin use i just use the end of a cigarillo to kill the little pest, yes it burns allittle. Then gently nudge it out with the point of a knife. Then use an antiseptic or booze to clean the area.

Get them early, or go to the doctor as these things carry Lymes disease.

Permetherin on your clothes. Yes, long pants and tuck into your socks. Renew the permetherin regularly.

Don't feed 'em -- kill 'em!
