Looks like a great place to take my nephew. He loves the water and learning about stuff like the tides and such.

It was reported in the papers that last night (our time, anyway), the moon was the closer than it has been since last year, they were describing it as a "super-moon". Looked quite bright when I got up to use the bathroom. Maybe that influenced the tide?
But if I saw the tide out particularly far, I think I'd be headed in the opposite direction, but I'm a coward when it comes to things like that :D I understand that tsunamis cause the water levels to drop prior to them hitting the coast. Though I'd imagine that might happen a bit quicker than a tide going out?

Tel me about it. The wind pushed the boats to hell. The Car ferry to ocracoke island got stranded on sandbars twice. I wasn't able to get of the island until this last Monday morning.

Welcome! nice to see more forumites from my neck of the woods, last time I was on that beach was siphoning ghost crabs for steelheading a couple years ago.

going to have to dust off the crabbing gear, may/june tides are the biggest around here and the best time for dungeoness crab. That and the USA's crab opening does not start until mid august......thats when we stop.
