What does Tidouett, Northfield, etc. mean with regards to GEC knives? Is there a cheat sheet on GEC knife style somewhere?

It gets a lot easier after you've bought them all to be able to look through them and know what is what.

One thing to remember: GEC doesn't even play by their own rules. Features that were never present on Tidioute before all of a sudden show up and then a stainless blade is on a Northfield and then they make a parts knife with two caplifters and then...

Now that would be popular! I mean, if one caplifter is good, two has to be better, right?

I'm going to get this over to GEC right away. Pretty sure they're going to want to add it to the upcoming run of #15's.

Looks like the Muskrat equivalent of bottle-openers, though not hinged at opposite ends.

I think you'd want them on the same end; if you had a stubborn bottle cap, you could open 'em both and get twice the grip on it. :D

You guys are nuts...or you've already been using that opener. 😎👍

I'm not impressed. Show me a 4 cap lifter congress... With long pulls...

Now THAT would look good with beer barrel oak covers. :D

Follow the link provided above to GEC's website, but to sum it up in a few words: Tidioute and Northfield are carbon and GEC is stainless.

How did a brand name topic get turned into a cap lifter beat down?

Sincerely,
Cap lifter fan

GEC also has made knives for others with different brand stamps including Northwoods, Bulldog, Champlin, Ulster, Tuna Valley, Cripple Creek, etc.

Meanwhile, on CaplifterForums, a knife discussion broke out in one of the threads there. Cosmic balance is maintained. :)

To the original topic - I prefer the Northfield trim-line from the GEC stable. What can I say, I like the extra bling.

Sorry, I think that was probably my fault. To be fair, I'm also a big fan of the cap lifter and didn't intend to stir up any cap lifter prejudices. :D

I think that's a pretty good way to explain the difference between Tidioute and Northfield. The latter definitely has the "fancier" materials, finishes, etc. I usually prefer the more utilitarian looking Tidioutes or Farm & Field Tool knives, but sometimes a little bling is ok. :D
