Tie Clipits?

I've been reading old threads about the mini-Police necklace knife and saw references to prototype Tie Clipits (with abalone scales?). Does anyone know if these will actually go into production? They sound like another must have for small-knife enthusiasts like myself.

They went into production... And out.

If I remember correctly, they were discontinued quite some time ago. I still see them every once in a while at gun and knife shows though.

Just a sec fellas. I believe Sal Glesser was taking a poll on what materials would be nice for a future tie clipit. This thread took place some time last year. Run a search. Or maybe Sal can give us an update.

Yes, the discussions I read took place from around May of last year through about August. This was supposed to be a new version with a different factory from the original run. I'm not talking about the ones from around ten years ago...

Looks like there wil be at least one run of Tie Clipits. Current question is Abalone or Stainless.

Stainless - unique, simple, subdued & less expensive (approx $50)

Abalone - unique, elegant, more expensive (approx $75).

opinions?

Stainless for me! and it would match my Ti Police necklace...

Abalone, without a doubt. I'm glad to hear they're still in the works. Thanks for the quick response, Mr. Glesser.

I don't care which one. I'll end buying one anyhow.
Abalone could look better with white shirt and suit...Less knivish... But would limit tie choise. --> SS

You've probably already thought of this and found a reason not to do it, but just in case, why not do both? I agree that abalone would probably limit tie choice a little more. Don't know, 'cuz I haven't seen the finished product. You could do a smaller run of one of them.

I've got a tie clip in abalone that I bought many years ago for my father, got it back when he died last year.

Stainless for me

I can not quite figure out why any one would want to have anything with Abalone on in a prominant position on their shirt front. (am I right in thinking thast Abalone is a bit like mother of pearl???)

Perhaps it is just a consewrvative British thing?

Bagman, you may be right in terms of practicality. I tend to think of these things more as items for my collection than for actual use. Therefore, I'm leaning toward the more decorative abalone. Unfortunately, the users will probably win.

I don't mean to seem rude, but I have my SS already. I treasure it and use it whenever I'm coerced into wearing a head gasket. However, I would definitely buy an abalone one if Spyderco will make it.

SS would be my vote; What about anodized aluminium? You could then have 'lower profile' colors. (Black, gray, brown, etc)

I gotta agree with Howie, I'd probably buy both. But, if I must choose just one.... err... umm... SS.

Abalone is way more classy gang. Easy choice for me Abalone!
