I am probably going to get a Tiger Claw, but I don't like 6 inches of handle for 3 inches of blade. I will take the ring off, but does anybody know if it's integral to any vital bits? It would be nice to just unscrew it and grind out a spacer, but I would like to know if I am going to have to cut it.

I don't have one, but just looking at pics, the ring is part of the back spacer, which holds the spring for the lock. It's also going to be what the pocket clip screws and rearmost body screws thread into. Cutting the ring off would be the easiest way, by far.

edit: Here's a pic of a disassembled Lawman (not mine, credit goes to Ankerson). The spacer on the Tiger Claw should be very similar.

IIRC I've seen this done before ! But can't think of where right now . Dang !

I wish the ring was just a separate piece, but that disassembled Lawman correlates with a Holdout 3 mod I tried. Shortened the blade to a wharncliffe, then went a bit too far on grinding the butt. Those springs have a surprising amount of tension on them, and they do NOT like their integrity compromised--and now I know how to DIY a gravity knife with no detente.
