The answer is BOTH.
There is a tiger canvas and a tiger linen. Some of the recent LE's are Tiger Linen, which is a bit more defined. Most of the LE models are canvas micarta. Which means they look nothing like Skunk & Jerry's (wasn't that a cartoon?) pictures without a bit of oil on the grips and then some decent exposure time on a good digital camera.
The SAR4 sure LOOKS like canvas to me. The grain is too open. Nothing like my Cultelli grips.
