Hi Everyone,
I have recently aquired a Sog Tigershark and was wondering if someone could tell me what I have.

It has a black blade but doesnt look blued like on the old Sog Bowies.(Sort of like a smooth powdercoat for want of a better term)

It had very light tarnishing on the edge(a light strop removed it).It is unused(and scary sharp!)Is this blade not stainless?

It has the old style "box" logo on the left side of the blade,Seki-Japan on the right, and has no serrations at all.

The sheath it came with is black leather with twin stitching, square on the bottom, and marked with the sog logo.

I have looked around a little but cant seem to find one like it.Any and and all help is much appreciated,thankyou.-Jay

black blade ..... powder coating is gray ..... so that seems inconsistent to me.

However, "black" could mean a rare Midnight Tigershark. The SK-5 carbon steel blade is blued, but black in color. (as I understand it, you cannot blue stainless ??).
And no serrations is consistent with an old model Tigershark as posted above by GIRLYmann. My foggy memory says that once SOG decided to put serrations on the Tigershark, SOG has always since then included serrations.
And the Seki stamp means "old."

I'll go out on a limb and say you've got an SK-5 carbon steel Tigershark, but can't say if it is a true Midnight Tigershark.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of SOG's SK-5 and have a "first model" Tigershark, one of my most-favorite knives.

Cheers,

Carl

You wouldn't want to sell it would you? I would offer you quite a bit for it

Hi Carl,
Thankyou very much for your help in trying to identify the knife for me.Its very much like the one listed in the link you supplied,Midnight Tigershark.

The differences though are:-Mine does not have "EDM.WA" etched below the "box" logo.

The sheath is different, obviously. The one pictured looks like a Gerber sheath I have for the "Outback Bowie".

The finish on the one in the photo in the link looks smoother.Mine is unused though so that may account for the rough texture,I just dont know.

I will continue to search for one exactly like mine,Thankyou again for you help.

P.S.Ndocyk,it is not for sale at this time.Thankyou for your interest anyway.

Just found out that the Tigershark I have is an early Japanese made model with black powder coat.Steel would be 440A.Approx 1997-1999.It is NOT a "Midnight" version.Mystery solved!
