I have a SOG Tigershark from about 6-7 years ago that was made in Seki - Japan with nothing but a couple light Kydex sheath marks on the blade and I was wondering if anyone here knew its "ballpark" resale value?

If I remember correctly these were made of AUS6 steel, I bought the Tigershark, a SEAL 2000 and SEAL PUP all the same year and they're all from Seki.

Thanks in advance for any info you can give.

I just bought one on eBay for $122+ shipping. I expected to pay 150-175 and wouldn't have been surprised to be outbid at that. However the knife I got was not in great shape. No pitting but major discoloration of the steel. The kraton handle is worn through at the crossguard just enough to let the steel inside start to rust and someone probable hammered with butt as the kraton is broken on the bottom. That said I'm still happy with my buy. I have seen SK5 Tigersharks go for 150-250 in the last several months. You would probably get a more knowledgable buyer her on BF and may get offers from this post.

The Tigershark you bought from eBay was the same as mine, power-coated, partially serrated and made of AUS-6? Like this one: http://sogknivescollectors.com/tigershark-powdered-s5.php

I knew that the Tigersharks made of SK-5 were selling (or are at least posted) on eBay for a lot of money. Its a beast of a knife, for whatever reason mine just never got used but the upside is my handle is in great condition as is the blade. I'm thinking about putting it up on eBay this weekend.

Thanks for the info!

Nope, No coating, no serrations. Straight edge, square logo, Seki, Japan, leather sheath. like this http://sogknivescollectors.com/tigershark-sk5.php. I know it is SK5 from the discoloration I have been polishing off. (I've got a Seal 2000 so I know the powder coat too) I have seen two on eBay for outrageous $$. One was asking $1500, I think the same one is now $999 and one at $700. Great if you can get it but these have not found a buyer at that price. When I started looking I saw one go for ~$250 but that was to highest I've seen sold. eBay buyers can be a bit crazy tho'. Someone paid $131.50 for a Seal Pup a few days ago. Nuts. Identical knives going for $70-80. Seller called this DEVGRU black ops.... Anyway... I think mine was an extra good deal.

Good luck, I'm always watching SOGs so I'll see what you get for yours.

to me personally, the carbon steel SK-5 version is the "most desireable" simply because I like carbon steel. SOG really seems to have the heat-treat right and my SK-5 Tigershark is a favorite for it's edge-taking and edge-holding.

such things among other folks will certainly raise the price, especially since the SK-5 version is relatively rare, and any seller will naturally hope to get paid for that rarity.

As for an actual stated selling value, it's obvious to me a few of those ebay sellers noted above are trying for top dollar .... nothing wrong with that, maybe they'll get lucky at what we would consider "outrageous."

Cheers,

Carl

I've sold a few knives through eBay but all of mine have been via auction rather than asking some outrageous (to me) price. I just sold a Buck/Strider and a Bark River Bravo 2 a couple weeks ago but once you take the eBay fees and add the PayPal fees I had something like $75 come right off the top. I still did okay, I used that money to buy a ZT 0551.

I saw one of the SK-5 models for an "asking price" of $1500 this past week, I knew the AUS 6 models weren't fetching nearly that much but I don' t know what a fair price for one just about new condition is.
Have a nice weekend.

Hey guys!! I am the NUTY EBAYER trying to get an the 700$ for my Tigershark SK5.. Yeah I know its a dream in the wind, but hell it took my almost 6 months to find this TIGERSHARK SK5.. I paid 250 for it at a gunshow.. Its a beauty basically MINT, but no dam sheath... ANyways I figured maybe there is some collector out there who would pay big money.. I think the past 2 years I have only seen 1 TIGERSHARK SK5 with original SHEATH in MINT condition sell for around 300$ off the forums... So they are a very RARE prduction knife...
I really like it!! I wish SOG would have kept making this knife... I have a newer tigershark and it is nice, but it does not feel the same.. Just like the SOG S1 MACV.. I also have a SEKI-JAPAN model which is like a SPORTCAR to the NEWER SOG S1T.. I hate to say this, but the NEWER SOG S1T is junk compared to the old school SOG S1 MACV BOWIE..

I have a really old SK5 Tigershark (from SOG's Cali Days IIRC). It's one of my most favorite Bowies and gets carried and used quite a bit. Would love to get my hands on a new Tigershark to play with. IMO you can't go wrong with any of the models.
