Actually story is right here right now. A Tighe-Phoon did strike but it was a Les Robertson Vanguard Tighe-Phoon. The man has done it AGAIN! I don't know where Les is getting those design ideas from but all I can say is "keep getting them Les, and keep getting the best makers to build them!"

The Tighe-Phoon is no exception to the style of knife I favor, big & beefy. All my knives fall in that category. First thing I noticed on this knife was the cool, and I mean cool, carry case. Wallet like with a fold over top that uses velcro to close. Next thing was the grip on the knife. At 1/2" thick and with it's design I believe it is one of the best grips I have ever put my hand around. With the flipper extending down to form the lower guard your hand just naturally fits around and over this grip style. nice matte finished carbon fiber and bb ti bolsters look and feel great. The clip is shorter than most but is not a problem. The blade is 5/32" thick while the liners are about .072" thick. What that results in is a very tight totally wobble free blade. That blade is hair popping sharp also. The flipper works like a dream. Your forefinger gives a push on the flipper and the blade comes out and locks up and you are ready to go, all in what seems like a second or less! This is my first Tighe knife and everything I had ever heard about his fit and finish is absolutely true. This is an outstanding piece of cutlery!
Coming from Les though I wouldn't expect it to be any different!:D  :)

That is a nice looking knife.., and thanks for sharing your comments guys...

Hi Art,

With few exceptions I have always had major input into the design of every
exclusive made for me. But for the most part it is conceptual. Because
each maker has different equipment in their shop. I give the makers
parameters to work with and design input, instead of a blue print.

In the case of the Tighe-Phoon Brian was given blade length, the flipper
opener, and materials to work with.

As it is with this knife and many other of the Vanguard knives. There is a balance that is found. I provide ideas /parameters and funding for the prototype. The maker provides the final design and builds the prototype. Nothing really new here as artisians and dealers have been combining their talents in other areas of art for centuries.

The collector in me enjoys helping to create these knew knives. The makers enjoy being challenged and creating something new.

When we work on the Vanguard knives, both the talents of the maker and myself are utilized. As you have so aptly pointed out in your many reviews. The result is usually an exceptional knife.

In the end everyone is happy and that is what counts.

Art, that Tighe-phoon is a hot looking useful knife, presented by a class act that is Les Robertson. Don't think I have not looked longingly at that folder!!

As they say elsewhere, YOU SUCK (and that's a good thing!!) :)
