Tight blades and stiff locks. Anyone else?

Just a question about how you like the action on your folder's.

I tend to tighten my blades fairly tight and have no fear that the blade will accidently open in my pocket. This is for my liner/frame lock knives. It may make it require a little more thumb to open it on one push, but I've done this for so long that I guess I have developed a strong thumb!:) When I do openit there is no slamming the blade against the blade stop and no movement in the blade when locked up. I have seen my share of loose blades that wiggle all over, but purposely done that way so that they can open fast and "impress" folks. Not for me.

On my locks I like the locking liner, or frame, to have a good degree of stifness to it. Not only does this help keep the blade locked up when open, it also helps to keep the blade inside the handle when closed. Just the way I like it to be! On most every liner/frame lock knife I have, I have put more stiffness into the lock by putting a little more bend into it. Now I don't go wild and bend it out to 90 degrees or anything:D, but just a little bit. So far I have not had any premature movement to the right, as they all keep the lockup they had before I did them. The stiffer lock pretty much assures that the blade is not going to come unlocked until I make a conscious decision to close it. Of course I am aware that certain rotating movements of the handle, when the blade is immobile and not able to roll with the handle, can cause the lock to move off of the blade causing the blade to become unlocked. I've not yet experienced this.

Anyway, I figure I can't be the only one who likes such a setup and I wanted to hear from anybody else who like to set up their knives with a "tight blade and stiff lock".:D

I adjust most of my knives right to the point where there is no distinguishable blade play to me. I usually do this at the pivot, and don't mess with the locking mechanism though.

I never make them tight enough where I have to "fight" to get them open though.

Today there are many who want to sling the blade out like a switch blade.Go buy a s.blade with a lock on it.Be safe not cut up.

I like them tight enough to have no blade play. If that makes it unflickable, so be it. I thumb all of my blades open except one with a zip tie wave.

I like a little resistance to mine and tend to adjust them tighter than most I think. I base this on feed back from friends who carry theirs so lose you can flick em open. Generally speaking mine won't flick open because my pivot screws are too tight to allow for it. You might get the blade started if you try hard but its likely not going to open fully.

As for the locks at least regarding frame and liner lock types. Well, again I tend to prefer a little sticking over one that is just smoothly contacting but I own both and don't mind either if thats the way it comes. I mean so long as there is no up and down play its fine with me. I don't like the ones that bind so hard you have to like wrestle the thing to close the blade.

Nice to see I'm not the only one on tight pivots. As far as the lock goes, mine don't stick to the point that it takes two hands to unlock, at least not for me. I have handed a knife to someone to look at, they take two hands and open it, then I see them taking two hands to try and close it, at which point a frown usually comes over their faces. I'll say to hand it back and then unlock it myself using my thumb. That is the type of stiff lock I like!!:D
