Tight pocket clip-tight lock bar?

So a couple weeks ago, my pocket clip got snagged on the seat belt when I was getting g out of the car. The clip got tweaked, so I removed it, then bent it back into shape with a bit more tension than it had before.

Later I noticed that the 21 was kinda stiff and harder to open. I tore it down, cleaned and lubed which helped, but it was still stiff.

Today, was looking at a new Zaan and noticed that the clip was not near as tight as my 21. It kinda clicked that maybe mine was stuff because the clip was creating too much friction on the blade.

Does this sound right? I relieved some of the tension and it seems smoother.

Stuff you learn;)

Since the pocket clip exerts pressure on the lock bar I can see how this can happen. Good information to keep in mind.

Btw, general consensus was that there is supposed to be a slight gap between the clip end and lock bar when the knife is open.

That was the case on my older Sebbies, but not on my 25.

I tweaked all mine so that when the lock is engaged the clip just barely presses on the lock-bar. I didn't like the gap because it made a weird twang when opening.

I just bent mine out a bit. I had also bent out my pocket clip. My girlfriend sat close to me one night and it hooked on her belt loop and when she stood up it pulled out. So I bent it as best I could but never thought about it being too tight as this is my first frame lock. With the knife open I can just touch my fingertip to it and it lifts but when closed has moderate pressure. The knife feels a bit smoother and it has solved the gritty detent. Thanks!

Yeah come to think of it my zaan was a beast to unlock!! And now I realize this was the problem. Thanks

If you haven't had any experience with lockbar adjustment I'd call CRK. I'm postive they'll tell you to send it back to them.

A tight clip, which you can adjust yourself with 1 or 2 needle nose pliers, has nothing to do with a lockbar being too tight.

I've bent a few lockbars on CRK's but a friend on BF with experience adjusting lockbars told me to do it. If you haven't done it before I'd send it back to CRK.....

remember they won't fix anything that been modified.

I too have noticed a difference, especially when removing the clip and putting in an insert.

I had the "old" Zaan and couldn't unlock it. I played with the pocket-clip tension and even removed the clip, but it didn't make enough difference for me to close the blade. I got some advice from Nyefmaker and traded it for the newer model Zaan with the LBS. Tremendous difference. I carry this one every day. Chris enlarged the thumb-access on the lockblade and that's all it needed. I had threatened to do the same thing with my Dremel, and that would have worked, but I didn't want to mod the knife. I have a thread on this CRK forum, not too long ago, with comparison pics if you wish.
