Hey guys,
I just got a BM707 sequal from a trade and love the knife. The knife is a user and I noticed that there is a side-to-side play, tiny but it tends to annoy me a bit, so I tried to tightened it a bit. Not expereinced with such stuff and I noticed about a 10 degree roataion on the piviot screw will make it from just held on the piviot to unable to open, I tried oil the knife a bit (hope food oil don't ruin this), things tends to get better but the knife loose up after a while.

I just want to know if there is a way to avoid the blade play while keep the knife smooth?

I understand send back to benchmade is always an option, but I live in Canada so I try to keep it as a second option. Any suggestion is welcome, thanks.

I find that with both of my benchmades, a 710 and a 556, that it just takes a nudge on the pivot screw to make an adjustment. I use the splines on the torx key to judge my adjustment, about half a spline width at a time and test till you get it right.

Food oils as lube does not work well. Apply loc-tite to the pivot screw tighten all the way down then back the screw out 1mm or less at a time until you get to the point you like. Turning so little that it does not even feel like it has moved is sometimes all that's needed.

I use Militec-1 for lube and Loctite 243 to maintain the pivot setting.

The sweet spot between blade play and a stiff action is minute. Fine adjustment is necessary, but you will end up with an Axis Lock with zero play and a super smooth action.
On last count I had thirty of them!

so the loctite will prevent it from getting loose again?
Seems my problem right now is even if I get to the correct spot, it tend to get loose real quick.

Strip the knife, polish the washers and polish the tang on a flat surface.

Put it back together, use a real lube in small amounts.

I prefer plumbers teflon tape over loctite, should get it smooth and tight very easily. Another option is nylon washers, you can marginally over tighten without the blade locking up from friction.

If you do us lock-tite (and its what I would recommend) be sure to only use a tiny amount.

I have been using Loctite for 20 years in the Pharmacutical business. Not to say that 243 Blue does not work on the pivot screw but according to Loctite here is what they say.
"Medium viscosity Loctite® 243™ prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration on fasteners from 1/4 to 3/4-inch in diameter. "
That's 1/4" - 3/4" Dia. which is typ. much larger then pivot screws in knives I have.
For screws under 1/4" I have used Loctite 222 which is purple. Here is what Loctite says. "Typically used with small screws up to 1/4". "
Just thought I would mention what Loctite recommends.
