I just had some blades TiN coated by TiGold and was wondering if anyone else has had experience with the company? I really can't tell if they want custom knifemaker business.

It seems to me that custom makers create the knives and designs that often become factory knives.

Jerry, can you post a pic of one of the tinned knives?? I've never seen one before. Are you going to the Blade show??? Hope to see you there! Michael

L6, the coating is Titanium Nitride (or one of the variants thereof). In this case is it a metallic brown.

The knife is 14"OAL, 8-1/2" CPM-3V Blade, Copper Bolsters and Green Canvas Micarta Handle. Weight is 10 oz.

If you don't mind my asking, how much did they charge? How was their service? I have been considering them, but their are a lot of firms that offer PVD coatings, so first-hand experience would be helpful.

P.S. Beatiful knife. How much does something like that cost (I'm sure I can't afford it right now, but I hope to get a good job over the summer...)?

Well, the price was part of the problem. When I called about price before sending the knives, I told them about the knives and they gave me a price of $25 each, maybe less. We discussed that I was sending 5 knives. When the blades were done, I got a call from them telling me the price for the five knives was $270. After I got a little upset, they agreed to come down to $200, arguing that it was a compromise between what they originally told me and what they decided to charge me after the knives were done.

Service was slow. It took me almost 2 months to get the knives back, after originally being told 2-3 weeks.

All this is what prompted me to ask the question on this thread. I'll email you on the other question.

Beautiful knife Jerry!! That sounds like a company I'd stay away from! You should have let them know that you're a Blade Forums member and if they didn't honor thier original quote you would let the forums know about it and their poor service. Take care! Michael
