Tilley Hats

I own a Tilley T3 in Khaki. Very impressive hat. Solid and well built, good for blazing sun or a shower.
While hiking in the local mountains last year I started to overheat, so I packed some snow inside the crown. Sure saved my a$$.

Go ahead and buy one, it will last forever.

Hi,
I have a confession to make. I am a Tilley addict. I have 5 of them in several colors. All T-3s.
I use them for white water canoeing, blacksmithing, and travel. They will never wear out, and if you destroy it, they will send you a new one for the price of the story of how you managed it.
In the Sinai desert I had to watch it more carefully than my wallet. Everyone wanted it.
A white, a tan, and a dark green will give you a good collection good for all occasions.
Enjoy, Ken

Tilley "I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN" Hats?

The rediculously overpriced ones?

The ones that promise a replacement?

---Only all you get is a catalog and an order form to BUY a new one?

Those Tilley Hats?

Why not? Then you can advertise to all you meet that you have more money than sense .................

Contrary to what maury wrote:

I am not a Senior Citizen and won't be for a good 30+ years.

Ridiculously overpriced? Like any fine piece of clothing, you get what you pay for. A $3 gun show hat or a $55 Tilley is not a contest in terms of value.

Personally, I've never need the replacement warranty as they don't seem to fly away when I wear them. They also don't fail with hard use.

Yep, those Tilley hats.

More money then common sense? Like the Infi-holics that use Busse Combat knives? And the list goes on ......

Personally, I would rather buy a good hat once and get the enjoyment and benefit of good gear. On the other hand, I could continually replace cheaper alternatives that aren't anywhere near the quality. I love those cheap sweatbands that itch, brims that fall against my head, dyes that fad and bleed when I sweat on them, etc. like you get with those cheap "value" priced hats.

Yes, I am a Tilley owner. I have yet to find a better hat. I have spent much more on the hats that got lost, broken, and thrown away for poor fit and quality that cumalatively cost much more then my Tilley. I really like the T2 when I am slaving away outside in the Arizona heat.

Like I've said before, you get what you pay for :)

Ya, Tilleys seem to be the present of choice for older men ie dads and Granddads: hats and vests both. I sometimes get the feeling that only seniors wear them. However, the hats are about as good as they get. I had one many years ago when i was a canoe tripper in northern ontario. It was perfect, and I also loved the look. Then years later when i was looking through a book on paddling i realised what it was: Bill mason, the canadian canoeist, outdoorsman and icon wore a Tilley. Some senior citizen!
With a little wear and breaking in, your Tilley definitely won't be mistaken for grandpa's hat :)
For warm weather, it's the best I've used.

Tilleys are good kit. I have a T3 in khaki/green. I bought one for Spiglet when we went to Italy. It was pinched in the Vatican post office!

May its new owner spend eternity in Hell being rogered by a lover made of red-hot iron ;)

The reason that senior citizens wear them is that it takes you that long to learn to protect your head properly against the sun and several bouts with skin cancer.

My mom and dad (both seniors) brought a couple back from Canada and after I took a good look at them, I bought one for my son, 13 years old, and myself-not yet a senior at 43 years!

Best hat I have ever worn! Period! I wear it to play golf and anytime that I am outside in the oppressive Arizona sun. I have the one with the wider brim without the snaps. They also float when they fall in the water.

I recommend the Tilley hat very highly and IF I ever wear this one out, I will buy another. The "Ultimate Hat" looks very similar and would most likely be a good choice also.

Anyway, cover up and prevent the fastest growing cancer in the U.S.-skin cancer!

I have T-3. I love it. I'm saving for (IIRC) the T-5.

I remember a line from Sister Act Two. Whoopi Goldberg tells the kids:

"Oh yeah. I understand. Being cool is a lot more important than individuality... you're going to let your friends dictate what you do for the rest of your life..."

The Tilley may not look "cool," but is sure is the best of MANY hats that I've personally tried.

Funny, I just got bought one the other day. I think the LT3 model. Seems like a nice hat. I wanted something tough that I didn't have to think too much about. If the hat lasts long enough for me to wear until I'm a senior (25+ years) , then I'll be proud to wear it.

Those Ultimate's look pretty good but, at ~$10 retail price difference I would continue to buy Tilley. The Watership hats are nice ones too and I looked at them before I bought Tilley. Breathability, thickness and, cut matter so, YMMV. The Tilley's fit my head great so, the choice was easy.

I'd rather be mistaken for a senior citizen in my Tilley than be one of those 30 year old guys who dresses like Bart Simpson, with their shorts and their little ball caps all year round.

Another irony is that brimmed hats have been around a hell of a lot longer than ball caps....Ken

Damn you people! I just spent 62 freakin' bucks on a hat. ;) Oh well, that's what I get for having a punkin' head.

i usually wear this hat :) good ole trucker hats

Yanno, those senior citizens just might have learned a thing or two in all their years. I was fortunate enough to learn about the Tilly long before I reached my golden years.

Sorry to say the young people that NEED to read the
reason for wide brimmed hats such as Tilly's don't
frequent these forums that much. Skin cancer here
they come.........

Hell, Most of'em ain't figgured out that the bill
of a cap goes in FRONT
