Hi all,

I have a stonewashed Tilt and was wondering if anyone has reprofiled theirs? I am thinking something like a 30 degree inclusive edge would make it an even better slicer (I'm guessing the factory edge is 40 degrees?), but my main concern is the relatively short amount of Vanax 75 steel to work with.

Anyone have thoughts if reprofiling would be a good idea? I will say that if I reprofile it, I will have to outsource it to someone since I don't have the tools or know-how to do it myself.

Thanks for the input!

I did one of my old black ones to around 30 inclusive. Job was easy, just like any other high carbide steel.

I say to for it.

You didn't lose much material/blade height? What did you use to reprofile it?

If you do it right you won't actually lose any steel from the cutting edge, shortening the life of the knife. You will remove metal from above the cutting edge, in effect making the knife thinner in that spot, but you are not removing steel in a way that will sacrifice any of the Vanax75 that you have.

Best thing to do is to reprofile the knife without forming a burr with the lower grits. On knives like this I will get most of the work done with the lower grits, but I won't actually apex the edge until 400 or higher. That way I don't waste a lot of steel by forming a huge burr.

I used an Edge Pro apex.
