Saw an ad in Blade magazine. Looked interesting. Checked out his site, a good selection of both tactical and traditional knives both folding and fixed. I am leaning toward his "baby bullet" folder.

Is anybody familiar with his work? Any comments? They look like they are excellently crafted knives. Decent prices.

Any input would be appreciated.

He's been talked about in the traditional forum, as well as here recently. Do a search on his name.

Nan,
I carry a "Baby Bullet" from Tim as my EDC, use it in the shop all day, abuse it terribly: still absolutely tight after a couple years. Looks good, too.

Tim's a neat guy, also.

I think Tim is really really busy. I had trouble getting even so much as a quote out of him for a specific slippie I wanted and when he failed to get back to me when he said he would the first time after voicing intial excitement about working with me and liking my idea I was surprised not to hear anything else but then when he failed to get back to me again I finally wrote him and said nevermind that I'd do something else. I finally broke down and made my own even though I rarely do slippies. Fortunately it worked out though. I'm carrying the one I did for myself.

Just FYI. You may be better off sticking with current models he is making and just opt for a variance in handle material or something rather than wandering off the beaten path for a 'new model custom fit to your specs' a bit like I was hoping for. In his defense mine was a tall order to fill. He seems like a really cool guy but I think his name is getting out more and more and he is just starting to really get swamped with attention and orders. It can be overwhelming I'm sure. He makes a great knife and knows his stuff. Seems to avoid forums though.

I'm not a slippie guy, but I like Tim's stuff that I have seen. Unless there was another Tim Britton making kives back in the early to mid 90's, he has been doing this for a good while:D

I think he is offering a fantastic bargain. Might be one of the best bargains I have seen in a while. Great materials and decent fit and finish.

Classifying the work as excellent might be pushing a bit it though in my experience.

I agree with Gus in that what I've seen seems to be reasonably nice work for the money, including nice stag and BG-42 steel.

That said, I have heard rumors concerning how the knives are produced but don't have any personal knowledge to confirm or deny any such rumors so I personally take them with a grain of salt.

I have been drooling over a pretty MOP slippie that one of the knife dealers I visit has/had.

Wow! What a read. I had never even heard of that thread. Tim gave other reasons to hate forums without mentioning that thread. I got the impression what was brought up in his warning about forums to me was about a friend or a fellow knifemaker.

By the way Tim is not listed in the Member list of the Guild now. I noticed some other names also missing from the list that were members just six months ago. Interesting.

I work hard to make an honest, quality product and hopefully represent myself and other knifemakers well. I find it sad that every successful knifemaker I know has been accused of either having someone else make his knives or buying parts from Benchmade, Japan or China. Custom grinders abound....they must be working for someone....NOT ME.
But then we all say that. Linville Knife and Tool Co. delivers more knives and kits with no markings than with markings. Wonder what goes on those blades ?
I'm busy making knives in MY shop, by my lonesome....just me. Tommy McNabb and I forge my damascus on his neat presses and other folks (Kenny Rowe & Tree Stump Leather)make my sheaths.
Instead of buying rumors and cheap gossip.....please pick up one of my knives and let it speak for itself....bg42 steel, 416ss liners, the finest pearl that I can hand pick (AAA exhibition grade, always !)and the finest stag I can find , anywhere, any price.
That's what I advertise and that's what you get....and I've been at it since 1972. That must mean something.....
A professor once suggested to me that a question needs to be asked before we accept info from another person...."why is he telling me this" ? Don't know about you guys....but I avoid talking about other makers, anytime, anywhere. ONLY comments you'll hear from me re another maker is most likely related to "wish I could do that". We'd all be in much better shape if we spent more time giving somebody a lift rather than hiding behind computer monitors and sniping at any and all who meet with success.
The advent of instant communication via knife forums is awesome.....but it's kinda like drivers licenses.....now if we could just figure out how to keep the idiots off the highways. I'm busy making knives....ANYONE is welcome to communicate with me at timbritton@yahoo.com I'll happily answer any questions or address any issues posed. I try to check the forums occasionally ...... usually in response to a buddy telling me I should respond to something. Once again....thanks to my friends for helping me earn a living at something I truly enjoy. Thanks to you other knifemakers for constantly raising the bar....I have never seen such incredible work !!

I have 2 baby bullets on hand, one pearl the other nice stag. Happy to send either to you, YOUR satisfaction guaranteed !! timbritton@yahoo.com
PS....Les Robertson also has a stag BB on his website, nice stag !

Hey Chuck . right now my BIG projects are a 2 blade canoe and a tactical trapper. Teardrop jack with wharncliff blade right behind that. Whittler frustrating me to no end....I'll need some help b4 I get back to working on two blade much less 3. I made 2 two blade trappers and then moved back to my comfort zone....I have had some problems finding 1/16" or even 3/32" damascus for liners....maybe Mike Norris ?
I can't stand the idea of belt surface grinding 1/8" stock down to 1/16" for liners. I don't have any problems grinding steel flats down.....but when it comes to leaving damascus dust on the shop floor it hurts ! Mind sharing your source for your damascus liners ?
While I'm here....take a look at Tommy McNabb's presses. Design is superb and function is awesome. It is making my treddle hammer grow cobwebs. We have been producing some pretty durn good patterns and a whole lot less wear an tear on the elbows.
Hope you had a good show at BLADE. regards, Tim

i bought a trapper from tim a few months ago and i couldn't have asked for a better transaction with a maker. i emailed tim about buying the knife, he told me he had a few ready to go and asked what type of stag i liked. thick, thin, dark, light, etc. and he shipped the knife right away. i happen to be very particular about centered blades and the knife he sent had a blade that was not centered. i emailed him and asked if he good send a better example of his work. he said "sure no problem" and he sent another knife right away. i emailed him and said thanks for the trouble and he responded and said he was glad i was happy with the knife. i guess if my original email went something like this tim might have reacted differently. "hey tim, that piece of crap you sent me wasn't what i expected, what are you trying to do, rip me off? i think i'll start a thread on blade forums about what an a-hole you are. how about another knife?" see the difference?
