in general i don't care too much for straight handles. usually i try hard not to be an impulsive buyer. and mostly i follow the "piece - maker - price" rule.

well, there are exceptions...

specs: 5 1/4'' blade of 52100, 9 7/8'' oal, black ash burl handle, nickel silver hilt and collar, leather sheath with shark skin overlay. as you would expect, decent f&f.

all comments are welcome.

regards,
hans

Nice piece.

Only decent fit & finish? Tim usually demostrates more than that.

Which of the covenanted Piece; Maker; Price rule did you break in buying this piece?

maybe i should add a ;) to "decent". of course, the finish is on a par with the finish of a dean/andrews/neely knife (as you would expect...)!

i admire tim hancock's work very much, but his knives are scarce and mostly rather expensive. so when this piece showed up i "rearranged" the rule to maker - piece - price and acted at once. however, i don't regret it this time!

oh, and there's a 20m.s.07 stamp on the blade. i like that :D

Did you mean exceptional instead of exception?! Certainly the piece and the maker are.
Sometimes intelligence works so FAST it just seems to be impluse. :D

Talk about doing the simple things exceedingly well!

Great piece, Mr. Hancock. Great purchase, Hans.

So, what does the sheath look like?

Thanks for showing it,
Bob

There you go, the "maker" can slide quite well into the top position at times. ;)

Tim dates all of his knives made since 2000 I believe. I like that too.

Where did you find it, if you don't mind my asking?

Kevin,

You are slowing down. The knife was on Tim's table at Blade. Dave Harvey from Nordic bought it and it sold through his website.

**************

brightred,

Gorgeous knife, great get!

sorry kevin, i wrote while you posted. yes, peter is right. i had been on nordic's website a quarter of an hour before they sent out their e-mail about new knives. and pulled the trigger :)

hans

Yes Peter, I missed that. I was too busy examining Stephen F's big Bowie I guess.

Now that I'm 50, I can't keep up. ;)

Remember that Chuck K. since you are 50 today.

I have a nice Hunter coming from Tim. Can't wait...

Tim is quite a sheathmaker.

Nice pick-up Hans.

Wake up Bush! We need to get our borders under control now!

Between Foster, Guido, and brightred all the good stuff is headed to Europe! :grumpy:

P ;)

Can't think of a Hancock knife that I haven't liked. A lot. This is a beautiful piece.

hey, we just do everything in our power to support your balance of trade. it's not enough yet, but we are working on it. :)

thank you all for your kind comments!

Tim has a knack for making even the seemingly simple stuff just POP and make you take notice.

"Stunning" is hard to accomplish with a hunter... Unless you're Tim Hancock :)

This piece would pretty much fall into my rule, it is such a handsome hunter, and I don't collect those, maybe have 3 or 4 out of 100+ customs.

I would certainly buy it and keep it, except for a few points(these matter to me, and it is good for the discussion, so take it for that)

1. I can't stand nickel silver, and it has no place in Tim's repetoire, he should sell all his nickel silver to Burt Foster.:D

2. The handle is a scosh too long, and some shaping (like a smooth bird's beak, maybe) would have been nice.

3. I like a thong hole on most knives.

The price was fair, and the blade is really nice.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
