Thought some of you guys might find this interesting. There is an article in this months Popular Mechanics about inventors. Tim Leatherman's prototype for what would become the PST is mentioned. Here is the shots from the article.

wow, that looks like a franken-leatherman!

You can see what would evolve into the PST and that maybe TL had an early intention of a driver with a replaceable bit like the Wave has now.

I remember reading an article about TL and that he shopped the prototype around and the only company that helped him out was Cabela's. They told him to change a few things and lower the cost a bit and then they were the first to market the PST.
 
He must just sit and stare at that and smile. The start of both a multi-million dollar buisness and one of the most copied ideas ever.
