Hey guys. Gonna take the plunge and order a custom fixed blade hunting knife. After much reading and talking to others, I have decided on the following two. Any experiences with either of these gentlemen's knives would be appreciated. I just want to make a good decision.

I figured this would have gotten some responses by now! I really can’t help you out too much since I’ve never owned a knife from either maker. With that said, I’m more familiar with the Crotts name than Tim Olt and being a big fan of Bob Dozier also pushes the needle to suggesting a Dan Crotts knife.

They both have different styles so it depends which you like more. Dan seems to utilize a full tang and scales with no guard construction whereas Tim appears to use guards on most of his knives. I don’t think you’re going to get something you won’t like either way you go so it may depend on how fast you want it as I’m sure the wait times are different.

If you want it soon don’t bother with Crotts. I ordered a knife last August with a three month quoted wait time. It’s now almost July. Might want to go with the other guy if he can make you one in a timely manner.
