I have had heard good things about Tim Ridge and Swamp fox knives. I have handled a few at some shows, can I get anyone's opinions if they used them and if they hold a good edge? I also like the looks and use-ability of the period pieces.

Tim's knives are excellent IMO (and in the opinion of several other friends into period using knives).
In fact I like them enough that I've got one coming in a trade - soemthing I seldom do these days......
What's my opinion worth? FWIW in the last 40+ years of building sheaths for other folks knives I've handled, owned, and used a bunch of custom knives by a plethora of some including the best of the best - sure doesn't make me an expert but it gives me a big database to form an opinion from.....and I'm hard on knives.....

I have one in kind of a small green river pattern. It's well made and takes a fine edge. I think the HRC is somewhere in the 55-57 range--not optimum by todays standards but accurate to what knives used to be run to. You have to touch up the blade a little more often (honing with a steel or ceramic rod, not major material removal) but you're far less likely to have edge damage in the form of micro-chipping. By the way, the hardness range I'm giving above isn't official, just my best guess from having reprofiled the edge. Anyway, you'll have a very authentic and well made tool from Swamp Fox.

I own several of Tim's knives and have a great fondness for their unique, one-of-a-kind characteristics and quality throughout. I use his knives specifically for historical reenacting...including historical trekking adventures which keep these knives busy with the demands of primitive wilderness survival. I wouldn't dare take a knife deep in to the bush that I didn't completely trust with regards to its performance, especially in view of the fact that a primitive trekker carries VERY few tools to provide for his needs (no redundant backups). In the modern context, the Swamp Fox knives will do anything as well, if not better, than many of the sophisticated designs and highly evolved materials out there. And, that is my honest opinion.:)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the news from people who use his knives. I like the fact they will be good using knives.
