Got one of these last week, finally. Had debated over one for over a year and when I got ready to order my BM 610 Rukus they had these in stock so I went ahead and got it. Very nice hatchet. The overall fit and finish is nice and the solid zytel grips, complete with finger grooves, give you a real solid handfull of axe. Edge was nicely sharp from the factory and with a little honing of my own it quickly got a razors edge. The entire axe is constructed from 440A stainless that goes .260" thick, so it does have some weight and with the offset handle you can chop and not worry too much about hitting your knuckles on whatever it is you are chopping. One thing really surprised me, for whatever reason, and that was the country of origin; China. I know that items can be made as nice as the manufacturer wants and only depends on what kind of money is put into the product. It seems that Timberline wanted to have a nice product. The leather sheath is also done up right with some thick gauge leather used and two different snaps to keep it secure. Also the belt loops are wide enough apart to nicely distribute the weight of the axe and not cause the sheath to begin to sag. Overall, and for under $50.00, I was really pleased with this product and it now resides by my bed in case of some late night "visitors" in need of a scalping;) :D

Nice small design and a brute at over a pound. It'll be a great user. And it's a great price!

As for China - steel prices in the US have risen to all time highs because China is snatching up all the steel they can in the world market. They're setting themselves up to be the only place that'll be able to do huge runs at cheap prices. They're buying as much US steel as we can ship them to the point that there've been shortages here and skyrocketing prices. Sadly a machine product is a machine product and as long as they have skilled workers running the machines they're going to turn out a decent product at rock bottom prices, something we can't match here in the US because of all our regulations. We regulated our manufacturing right out of business in this country and if the SHTF we won't be able to restart and retool for several years. We'll be behind the 8-ball for some time while the rest of the world will gouge us because they can.
