Timberline Discovery

The assisted opener Timberline Discovery has an unusual blade shape at the spine. Any ideas as to why - except for aesthetical reasons?

I´m quite sure it´s only for the looks. Without the raised area on the spine the knife tip would look very narrow and unattractive.
The only benefit (a stronger, but also thicker tip) is not a very important feature in a Tanto shaped blade IMO.
