i was looking at the rat izula and drooling over consistently; but, i know where i'm taking this knife would be far from hospitable to the 1095... even though i've read countless postings about r.a.t. cutlery's coating being above par. regardless, for a knife that is substantially less in cost and only .6 oz more in weight... would this be a good neck knife for a canoe trip in brackish water with occasional wade fishing? how is it at xtra small utility... i.e. would my gf be able to do light food prep while i'm fileting the fish? how good is the sheath inverted? is it better off iwb?

p.s. please don't reccomend the spyderco salt series... i'm not a fan.

It's a decent knife with AUS6 blade steel. Fit & finish are good.
(I'm basing this on the few I saw a couple of years ago when the knives were being made in Taiwan.)

For canoeing and wade fishing, I think it could actually be a better choice than the Izula - even though the Izula is a higher quality knife overall.

Ha Ha, I was gonna say since you said don't reccomend the Spydie Salt's then you may not get much feedback except for pepole reccomending the Benchmades. And whaddaya know, someone already has.

Sorry, have no idea about the pitbull.

........unless the edge profile has charged since I bought mine, it's chisel ground......inadequate for many applications especially filleting. If it were me I would spend a few dollars more and get something better.

There is a reason this knife doesn't get much attention on these forums.....and it's not because it gets overlooked !
