Time for a new cell phone

Hello everyone, well it's almost that time again. I am looking for a cell phone that works well with Singular service. I really hate dealing with them now that they have taken over AT&T. I was getting 1050 minutes for $39.99 and now that I need a new phone I am forced to switch over to their plan. Which will run me $69.99 for 900 minutes. They told me that I will now have to use their sim card and phone. Sounds like major BS,
Oh well as they say "Nothing good lasts forever"
So now I am looking for a small phone that I can carry in my front pocket. I would like a smart phone or a pda phone, but am open to other options. I would like it to have bluetooth capabilites. Currently I have a Sony Ericcson 616 which is ok. I like it because it hardly ever needs a charge and I can leave it on and never shut it off. I have had problems with Motorola getting a good signal. I like the Nokia's because of their reception, however they are currently pretty big. I bought a LG 1400 for my wife and she likes it but misses the great plan we were on. I use mainly as a phone so I am open to all your suggestions. Thanks

I recently switched to Cingular. I got a Sony Ericsson T637. It works great and it as Bluetooth. A friend just signed up with Suncom. He got unlimited min, for$70 /mo. Might be good if they are in your area.

I too was interested in a PDA phone. Then I saw the prices and specs. You get a $40 phone matched to a $200 PDA for $600. So I bought the nicest 'simple' phone I could find, then ordered a high-end PDA seperately. I ended up with better products and saved a tone of $$.

Many of the 'plain' phones can also browse the web.

Just something to consider.

Good Luck,
-Bob

Bob, you are so right. I have an IPAQ 3635 that uses windows. I really like it for storing all my info. I guess we all long for that pda/phone that will do everything. It would be nice to have less to carry. Phone in front pocket and pda in shirt pocket. The search continues.

I just ordered a couple of Nokia 6620 phones. The research I've been doing leads me to believe they are good phones. They also have significant PDA functionality.

Where did you order your phones from?

I need to replace 2 of my phones, but I don't want to sign a new contract.

I need CDMA phones for the U.S. Cellular network.

I just got a Nokia 6255i and it is made for a CDMA network. Looks like it will have all the features I want (including bluetooth, infrared, video recording, MMC memory slot, FM radio, etc. etc.)

It's still charging so I haven't played with it yet. :D

Cingular sucks. When it bought up AT&T, I cried. Piss poor service, the worst customer service EVER, and the usual California Cingular issues: dropped calls, poor coverage, and if you try calling C.S.: attitude problems, hung-up on, refusals to connect to supervisors (due to the CS Reps being so rude, and hanging up on you), etc...

If you're doing the forced migration from AT&T to Cingular, you'll be forced to sign a two year contract, and get a Cingular phone and SIM card. AT&T phones are not working well on Cingular's network. Especially AT&T LG phones, which need a software upgrade. Cingular will be more than happy to help, after charging you $15.00 for the "service upgrade."

Cingular sucks...

The new Cingular color/bluetooth Blackberry is pretty sweet. Don't know if it is small enough for you, but it is about as small as you'll get a PDA phone with bluetooth.

Good luck...

I just upgraded from an old Startac to an LG VX4500 and I really like it. It'll do the whole web browser thing, but I don't really care that much (hell, my old Startac would do that).

It may not be as powerful as the Startac, but we're so over saturated with cell towers around here, it probably won't make much difference.

Would you lump the Treo-650 into that category? Because the cell-phone part of the equation is most important to me.

I currently have a Sony Clié PEG-NR70V/U, a Blackberry 7280, and a new Motorola Razr V3 - and I'm just tired of dragging around three different pieces. I was thinking of getting rid of these and carrying only a Treo-650. I've also been reading some of the Treo forum threads and they seem to be a bit cranky to configure properly. I guess I could cope with that. But, yes, as a matter of fact I _DO_ want something that does everything! ;)
