looking at a new knife... choices are full size Manix, 710d2, milie, bm943 in s30v. any input will be appriciated, as well as advice on other not listed knives that i should consider...

The BM 710 is one of my most favorite designs I have handled. That said, I have not handled the others except the military which is also one of my most favorite designs.

We need to know first, what is the intended use?

well, thanks to the back button on my mouse I lost a good post :mad:

Anyway I will sum it up:

Military=strong
light and thin=happy pockets
awesome design
open back construction-easy drying and cleaning
liner lock- strong and less prone to failure from dirt and such since all it is is a slab of metal.

Manix=strong
heavy and thicker
harder to clean and dry-lockback
more prone to failure from dirt-lockback

Both are strong and have good ergonomics. Both have a thin tip which can be either good or bad.

If you are going to consider the Manix, Military, and BM 710, then I would also give a look to the BM 610 Rukus. This is a little larger than the others and a little weightier, but nothing that is uncomfortable. The Axis lock is one of the best locks, if not the best. You have a S30V in a flat grind, drop point blade and my 610 came the sharpest of any production, and most customs, I've had. The ones you listed are great choices, but for outdooors, it is going to be hard to beat the Rukus.

The Manix, Military, and 710 D2 are all tough knives that you shouldn't have problems with for EDC and camping. The full-size Manix is a monster, very hefty and you'll know you're holding a solid hunk of knife. Lock could have problems from dirt and such while camping though. Military is also a pretty big folder, but I haven't had too much experience with the lock. The 710 D2 has the Axis lock which is just great and will give you no problems with dirt or sand.

Just my $.02

For EDC, i prefer the BM710 D2. But for camping, i would go for the the Rukus if you're looking for a folder. Best advice...carry two knives. A 7" - 10" fixed blade for chopping and bigger chores and a folder for more delicate work.

The Manix is a hulk of a knife and absolutely amazing. The ergos are incredible; the knife feels like it molds to my hands and the flat grind makes it a superb cutter. I love it!

Don't have the Military but if it's anything like the Para-Military it's another great knife with a versatile blade and not only lightweight but tough.

I've been eyeing the 710 and I really want one... but I haven't appropriated the funds for one yet.

615 mini ruckus, it is smaller, than the 610, but it is still the same solid knife, it is a easier size to edc, but just as tough.
