I've decided to sell a couple of pocket knives that just aren't it and get a new EDC knife. I'm considering the Benchamde rift and the emerson CQC15. Looking for some input on these two and others you might recommend.

Telling you why I'm selling what I have might be helpful.

BM 710 m2hs: Like the steel and the axis lock but...
Handles don't have enough grip
Handles shape too long and slender, prefer something shorter that fills the hand more
jimping(sp?) not aggressive enough
Blade shape too long and slender, feels too pointy
Never happened but always felt like it would be easy for my hand to slip onto the blade. Prefer a choil or a good handle shape that prevents this.

Spyderco Manix: like the choils, jimping, and grippy g10 but..
Too big
Too slow to deploy

I purchsed the HK 14205 last month and love it!
Fills the hand nicely, and the thumb lands perfectly on the ramp.

Blade Thickness: 0.150"

Blade Style: Modified Clip-Point; Ambidextrous Thumb-Studs

The Rift is a nice design, but I don't like the blade to handle ratio. I'm really drawn to the CQC15's design, even though I'm not a fan of recurves. I would prefer the Mini 15 over both.

I shaved down the sharp edges on my Rift handle, and then i made a forward finger choil by breaking off a bit of the edge closest to the handle and filing it smooth.
Feels good man

The Rift and CQC15 were both on my "list" of knives to get. I visited my local shop and actually handled both. The Rift, while a great knife I'm sure, felt like holding a plastic ruler. The one I held felt flimsy and very lightweight. And I really do like Axis locks. I am sure it is not flimsy but that's how it felt to me. I ended up getting a CQC15, my first Emerson, a few weeks later and I can tell you its a great EDC in my opinion. (its in my pocket today) Mine was very stiff at first but has since slicked up nicely. The recurve is not that noticeable and I haven't had any problems getting my other recurves plenty sharp on my Sharpmaker.

Between the two the Emerson just has better ergonomics to me. It just felt better in every way including durability.

Handle both if you can. I highly recommend the CQC15 though. Good luck.

A friend asked me what I thought about the cqc before his purchase a year ago. I thought it looked kinda mall ninjaish :p. After it arrived I was actually pretty impressed with the knife. But those weird edges always put a confused look on my face. Plus the emerson g10 felt kinda smooth too.

No chance to handle the rift locally. But I took a chance on the rift and it arrived just now. Seems pretty nice. But it would be pretty sweet to have the wave.
