Man killed by step-son with machete
LOS ANGELES, July 2 The unthinkable crime, a son allegedly kills his step-father with a machete in South Los Angeles. The alleged suspect, Hugo Guebara, is in custody today on suspicion of murder, police said.
Julio Chanta was lying on his couch at 10:15 last night in his home in the 1400 block of West 37th Street, when he was attacked by his step-son, Hugo Guebara, who was armed with a machete, said Lt. Corina Hees of the LAPDs Southwest Station.
The incident was witnessed by Chantas 23-year-old daughter, who tried to help her father fight Guebara off, Hees said.
Chantas daughter, whose name was not released, was also struck several times by the machete during the attack. She sustained several lacerations and one of her wounds required stitches, the lieutenant said.
When officers arrived at the home they were sent to a converted garage in the back of the house where Guebara was seen trying to leave the area, she said.
He was quickly taken into custody without further incident, Hees said.
The machete, and bloodstained clothes were recovered at the scene by officers, the lieutenant said.
Exactly what caused the attack was not immediately known, Hess said, adding that the attack was still under investigation.
