Bill Moran was in the hospital this week for some tests and they found a small tumor.

From what I understand the Docs are pretty positive on the prognosis and Bill is too although he is a little upset that they do not let him smoke a pipe in there.

What Bill and Margret have done for knifemaking can not be measured and I am sure all of us wish the best for him.

It is not a good time to call him or Jay; for now our thoughts and prayers are needed.

for someone who has given sooooo much to this world of bladesmithing... I can only hope that the Morans find this to be not as serious as it first seems.. And if it is, to know that many of us are pulling for him.
I've never held a Moran, just imitations... But I have always been impressed with what I've seen and what I've read about the man, himself.
My thoughts and hopes are with him...

I just talked to Bill on the phone a couple of weeks ago. He is very pleasant and a true gentleman. I sure hope that he is going to be ok.

Thoughts and prayers on the way.

I got the chance to shake his hand, it was a thrill.

Years ago I met Mr. Moran at a gun and knife show. His kindness to a goggle-eyed little boy I will never forget.

I pray that all is well with him when the final results come in.

Sad news...but our thoughts and prayers go out for him.

I got to watch Bill narate the forging demo at Atlanta this last June. Then back inside the show, I got to introduce myself, shake his hand, and even show him some of my work and get his thoughts on it. What a thrill that was! :)

Later I was at our table ("assistant """supervisor""" at the Timascus table ;) ) and I saw Bill walking around. I went and asked him if he could take just a moment to come over and see a part of the progression in which he started in this country... Tom Ferry and Bill Cottrell's forge welded titanium. Not only did he agree, but he came over immediately and gave it a look and we all got to have a conversation with him.

How's that for kind-hearted. A giant like that, so willing to listen to the excitable jabber from a dumb kid like myself.

Frustrating as it is, things like this can remind us how simple and frail we all are...but Bill Moran is a giant amongst us...a giant indeed.

All the best,
Nick

W.F. Moran is my hero. Why? Because he is the genuine article, the quintessential self made man who changes the world he touches through his vision and example. May he continue on in the best of health for as long as God wills possible.

A living legend. A bigger celebrity to me than hollywood actors. I do hope he will be ok. I would really like to be able to meet the man one day. I really would.

All the more reason to keep that sacred forge lit and hold that blessed hammer in your hand gentlemen.

I met Bill many years ago , when I was just a young pup . I'm sure he doesn't remember but it is something I will never forget . My best to he and his family .

Operation went fine. Tumor was confined so they did not have to do anything but pull it out. No future treatments necessary. He should get out this friday and is already wanting a steak dinner when he gets out. They have him going up and down the halls.
