bucksway,
Sent you a message on this. But let me just say the same thing here.
I was thanking bucksway for remembering one of my posts and trying to get in contact with me about a special knife on auction. Yes, this one is an almost. Almost what I wanted and almost had my hand out to grab it. But fate did not allow. Lots of non-forum folks I have told story to, have commented how nice an effort was made to notify me of the knife auction. And I reply that it is sort of a knife mafia, a brotherhood, a almost familiar attitude when we are living and breathing Buck knives. They are impressed and so am I.
In this instance I had mentioned some while back that one of my knife "Holy Grails" was an America's Cup 315 Yachtsman. Only a couple hundred were issued back in late 80's.
The knife of this thread and of the auction was a over-run of that production. Actual numbered custom production run featured a knife just like this one with scrimshawed depection of Ted Turners sailboat underway. I was still "very interested" as Sgt. Shultz would say, in the knife pictured. It was not listed in auction title with Buck or 315 and so escaped my EB saved searches. The pearl scales and blade etchings made it desireable. I would even appreciate and consider the effort a success if a good photo of the real one would surface so I could use it to write the history of the 315 with all versions depicted.
I may never find my "Holy Grail" knife but the search will continue. I thank all who particapted in the fast and furious 'happening'.
It takes a village to raise a child and a brotherhood to raise a Buck collector. I am in your debt gentlemen.
