I last finished a knife in January. Then the honey do's came around and haven't been doing much of anything in the shop. I really made a bunch of knives in a short time last year. I wasn't burned out or anything but I decided to get more home projects done and cut the grass:o I just barely started up again this sunday for a couple of hours and it felt like old times. The little time off I took was refreshing and I feel re energized again. I also jog two miles two times a week now. That may be the new feeling of energy as well. Have any of you longtimers ever felt like this before?

When it starts to feel TOO much like a real JOB , then it is time to stop and step back . But after a couple of weeks of lawn cutting and the honey do's , I'm usally begging to get back to the shop .

Frank,
Yes have been there and Not done that. since approx January, 2009......lots of reasons, broken hand, dislocated finger, messed up shoulder....on-and-on, recently, managing the repair of a water damaged kitchen and bathroom...ours....on-and-on.
I am really wanting to get back in the shop, but for some reason, it is currently still difficult to actually get there.
Glad you missed it for a relatively short period of time.

Take Care,
John Fraps

(not a longtimer, but....)

I've been having the opposite problem.... Being just a hair north of ya (central IL), we just broke 40 degrees for the first time in months. Shop temps have been in the 25-35 range until this week. I had a hard time motivating myself to do anything out there anymore when it's that cold... I guess I'm just getting wimpy. That being said, it has been on my mind throughout the winter. I tried to channel a little bit of it into designing, but it's no substitute. I had to take care of a little plumbing issue today, or I probably would have started some projects. I did spend a few hours cleaning the shop and, barring any "emergencies", I'll get back at it tomorrow. I'm almost giddy just thinking about it... :D
