This probably should be in the auto forum but here goes anyway.

I've been discussing getting an on duty knife for a few weeks now and I have the money for one knife
Here are the paramiters I've set.
Auto
blade 3 1/2"-4"
partial serrations.
Clip for carry in pocket.
Prefer tip up but tip down is an option.

now the big kicker, Must be priced at under $200.00

I have narrowed my choices to the Mid size MOD dieter or the Michrotech SOCOM ELITE. The Elite has a really large blade of just over 4" inches and that bothers me a little.
The LCC is over $200.00 everywhere even at wholeslae from my LEO toy distributors.
The distributor I have spoken to has the SOCOM Elite Tanto at under $175.00 and the Dieter at about $180.00 so prices are very close.
The Dieter has a 3 5/8" blade and the window smasher. The SOCOM is just a knife without the other feature but some folks think it's a better made knife.

Keeping in mind that this is going to be strictly an on duty knife I need some help in making my decision.

Got to agree with John, but if you have your heart set on the LCC DA keep looking. You should be able to pick one up at 200.00 even if it is slightly used.

L-UDT is your best choice.

Hi
if you wear a uniform, don`t mind the "window-smasher"
at your belt will be enough stuff to smash a window in a emergency!
Get the best slasher you can afford.
:)

I hear it is possible to get a LCC D/A at some gun shows for about $200 and you can certainly get them for no more than $250 almost anywhere. Save a little longer and get the LCC D/A!

The LCC d/a would be a good choice. Obviously, you aren't dependent on just the spring to open the knife- if the spring breaks [like it did on mine], you still have a perfectly usuable knife, which is not the case with the LUDT, et al. Also, if you're wearing gloves, the knife opens very easily manually, with either hand. The mediumish size of the knife gives you something something substantial to hold onto, and the shape and weight of it feels good in your hand- it's a very solid knife.

Save up your money, and get one.

Frank

Edit:
Triple Aught Design http://www.tripleaughtdesign.com/lcc.htm used to sell them for about $215 + shipping- they still might. Email them and find out.

I have a full size CQD and carry it on duty daily so I'm sure the smaller version would also be a good carry knife. You might also want to look at the MOD Trident I don't have one yet but it looks like an excellent daily user. Microtech also makes an excellent knife and I own a bunch of them but for some reason I've always carried the MOD on duty.

I say go with the LUDT also, it is the perfect pocket clip carry size. I have found that the LCC is a bit heavy/thick for me and the Socom E is more at home in a sheath due to its' overall large size. I haven't handled the CQD but I hear it's quite large also. I have enough gear on my duty belt already, I don't need a knife that is too big adding more bulk/weight. By the way I carry a BM 710 on duty.

The LCCs come up very often on the forums. You could post in the knives wanted to buy area. I sold my D/A LCC on here a few weeks ago for $180 and it was like new. You should be able to find one for $200.
michael :D

I agree with some of the guy's here.
Hold out for the LCC !!!
The good part is that the LCC is a D/A and all the others you mentioned are S/A, although I can't comment on the Dieter as I've never handled one.
Donald.

LUDT, LUDT, LUDT, L-UDT. I have gone from benchmades to other Mt's to AL Mar and I can say hands down, the BEST on-Duty Auto is the LUDT. Buy one, get the Boss to buy you one or steal one from one of your "brothers". (I tried that once....OUCH!!!!!!!!!)
seriously, we had the Carl Drega, Colebrook, NH incident where of the Two Trooppers killed and five other officers wounded seriously, one Trooper was assinated by Drega as he straddled the Trooper who was down and had his right hand blown off and IF, IF IF IF he had an auto, an LUDT, or any AUTO he MIGHT have been able to fire it and drive that blade right between Drega's Testicles and rectum, Killing HIM instantly instead of taking five .223's center mass. TO THIS DAY, it is an AUTO-KNIFE that seems to really come in handy in more ways than one and the LUDT seems to do what we need to do in LE......wolf
