Time to make a decision...

Well I've been spending alot of time this last week reading all of the posts here trying to decide on my next knife. I have been looking for a good balance between strength and cutting ability and ease of use. It's going to my my main EDC. I think I've got it narrowed down to five possibilities:

1. Spyderco Paramilitary
2. Spyderco Manix
3. Al Mar Sere 2000
4. Microtech Mini Socom Elite M/A
5. Bradley Alias I

Any thoughts?

I would go with either the Paramilitary or the SERE 2000.

The Manix might be a bit big for your main EDC.

See if there's a store near you that carries those models and get your hands on them to see how they feel before you buy one. Those are all good choices. A knife may look great on screen and just not feel right in your hand when you finally receive it. Just an idea.;)

If you have big hands and don't mind the extra weight or size, I'd get the Manix, but otherwise I'd get the mini SOCOM elite or the Paramillie.

I've heared pretty good things about the Alias but am hesitant about a company that markets the way they do. If you're interested in the design of that knife consider saving for the Sebenza and pay for the intellectual property because it's the right thing to do. I'd probably start to feel better about Bradley if they'd at least had the confidence in their knife to stand on it's own merits and simply named it something else. For a lot of people the Sebenza is the only knife they'll ever need. If $ are the issue the Microtech is probably the best value there. FWIW, I've found that once you start making lists like you did, you'll eventually own them all regardless of your income level or willingness to part with your $... which knife is most interesting to you right now?

Ha ha, I had actually thought the same thing, that I'll end up owning them all. Being honest with myself right now, I'd have to say that the Microtech interests me the most, but I've never even held any of these knives, and there aren't any stores here in Sacramento, CA that have a decent selection, so I'm gonna have to go off of these forums.

How come theres no Benchmades in that list?

Well because I've had a benchmade before. I loved it, but I'd like to try something new. I know beyond doubt that I will buy a benchmade again, but I lost my last one a couple of years now  and I can't live without a knife any longer. I will be getting a benchmade again someday, just not this day.

I thought I read that Bradley Knives were just upgraded Benchmades? Like how Infiniti is to Nissan.

Spyderco Manix is nice but is very heavy & wide to me. The Spyderco Paramilitary I really like. The Mini Microtechs are a bit on the small side handle-wise for my hands - nice knives though. No expierience with Bradley Knives. I own a Al Mar SERE 2000 and really like it a lot. It is stout as hell without being overly bulky. About the only complaint I have on it is that the thumb studs can kind of abrade at my pants pocket.

The paramilitary would definitely be my choice. I've been dying to get my hands on one, but just haven't found the money yet. I really like the handle to blade ratio...it's a lot like the centofante, in that area....sure, it's a long knife folded for a 3 inch blade, but you get such a better grip on the knife, especially with G10....unfortunately, I haven't been able to try a compression lock yet, so I don't know if I'll like it or not.

Order two Paras, give one to me.

For sheer brute strength, the Manix.

For EDC multitasking, the SERE 2000.

I have no experience of the other three.

You will not be disappointed by either of these two knives.

I hope you know you know, i was only teasing as to why there was no BM's in your list.

My god, i couldn't live for a day without my edge's being around, nevermind over a weeks time, i feel for you as most here would in the same boat.

I know theres a new Benchmade 710 with your engraved name on it, waiting at the BM factory, they have a engraving service going right now, is a nice touch imho.

Good luck and long usage with what ever you buy friend.

Peace out

Yeah, no kidding, if I forget to throw one of my EDCs in my pocket for one day I feel naked. I can't even imagine going a week, let alone a few years(did you really say a few years? :p )

Just about all of those are some nice knives.
I have to agree that the Manix is a heck of a handful if you don't have some big ol mitts. I never really got into the Spydy hole, but you can't knock the quality.

Haven't had a chance to handle an Alias yet. They really seem far enough from the Sebi to not bother me, advertising is a little obnoxious I guess, but so be it.
From what I understand, I wouldn't say upgraded BM, just made by BM, so quality and fit/finish about the same.

That Sere would be my first choice, heck of a nice knife.

Have you considered Swamp Rat knives??? I was impressed with their quality, and I'm a custom maker, what was I doing on that side of the room? :D just a thought...
