So the only traditional folders I've had are Cases. But after seeing GEC's, I really dig them. There's one problem however, there's so many!
I just want one for a good carry/utility knife. I work as an Electrician if that helps, so I do alot of wire stripping and stuff like that. Anyways, what are your favorite patterns and why? And what do you recommend for my first GEC pattern and why? Thanks in advance :D

This seems up your alley

What Jerry said.

The #15 was my first GEC, I love it. Mine has a single clip point blade and wears smooth ivory scales. I'm sure the #15 STR-EK posted above me would make you exceedingly happy. :)

I think STREK's special order version of the 15 Electrician's Knife will suit you most. Very strong but attractive Green Micarta handles makes for high endurance, lot of kool-factor too!

I'm sure most other GEC's will meet with your approval, the Eureka Jack could be one for your line of work.

Thanks, Will

While not an electrician's knife, I ordered my first traditional slippie last night after a long time taken to research between brands and styles, a GEC #55 Hounds Tooth. I'm a fan of Wharncliffe blades and it was suggested by a lot of members here.

Since you are an electrician, I have to agree with the STREK knife also. I am not an electrician nor am I an owner of this knife, but I've had many of the #15 series pattern, and it is a great knife. I am certain that this model will be too.

The 92 Eureka Jack has become my favorite carry knife.

With that straight edge coping blade, I would think it would be useful in your field.

My first GEC was a Tidioute Missouri Trapper and it almost turned me away from GEC. It was a bear trap and I broke both thumb nails. The old Bucks that I owned growing up were all I knew and they were easy to carry and open...in comes Bladeforums. Every time I googled a knife for reviews, this forum kept coming up. I joined shortly thereafter and the information and know-how that I have gained is immense. Anywho...I don't think you can go wrong with the #15's. I sometimes carry a #42 Lockback Trader, and even though I like the size, the #15's make me feel that the size of the #42 is a bit daunting if you open it up in front of non-knife folks. I sold the single blade #15 that I owned because IMO, the single bladed Barlows/Boys knife don't have enough heft to them. The #66 is another good one, but even though it is the same size as the #15, the cutting edge is shorter.

For size comparison, here you go...

^^^ 4 #15's, #85, #72, and #42 from L to R.

I also own a #66...let me know if you need a picture of that one too.
