Well, im heading out for my first solo overnighter today and with me I'm bringing my new Machax and Corona folding saw to try them out for real.

I plan on using a 'super shelter' of sorts with a tarp, emergency blanket, clear plastic front, raised floor and long fire in front.

Needless to say, with an 8 degree low tonight, the Machax will definitely be earning its keep!

Ill postings up when I get back sometime tomorrow.

Wish me luck!

Good luck man. Looking forward to the photos. Outings are my favorite threads.

Stay warm.
These are the best threads the doing not the pimping.
Fancy beckers are nice also.

Yeah, definitely the threads of outside stuff using tools are my favorite as well. Still, looking forward to the photos. I'm still trying to remember to take my camera and take pics when I do this kind of stuff, usually I'm so busy having fun (or alternately, freezing my hiney off) that I forget....

Well, I ended up backing out.

No excuses.

The truth is, I have to work on a press tomorrow at work (really tiring) and I haven't got enough sleep the past week so I decided to wait for another weekend when I can camp Saturday night and sleep a bunch Sunday night to catch up before starting up another work week.

The good news is that I now know that I can make a decent winter shelter.

I set up my tarp with plastic sheeting for one side and the front and used my poncho as the other side.
I cut a TON of firewood and had a fire going in no time.
After eating I realized just how tired I was and I still had more wood to cut so I decided to wait for another day.
Maybe one with a low temp above 20 Fahrenheit haha.

The BK4 really did perform excellently though. I can already tell that it will be my go to blade for distance hikes.

Have fun and take plenty of photos! Enjoy your first solo, it's a fun challenge.

Make sure atleast one other person knows where you are and when you expect to return in case of emergency.
