I have an old Schrade Peanut (1 clip and 1 pen blade, I think its a peanut) that has seen better days. I was a gift, so I hate to get rid of it, but I have whittled the blades down to nearly nothing, lowered the tip on the clip so it didnt stick out of the handle and need to do it again, cut sheet rock, left it on the deck for about a month, convexed the blades, etc. In short, its about to give up the ghost. Are there any replacements for ~$30, in carbon steel? I would prefer to stay away from stainless, but if I must, I must. It usually rides in my right front pocket, accompanied by a Benchmade TSEK in the left pocket. Is there another pattern that might be better? I'm not sure what the steel is, other than not stainless, but I tested it for hardness at work and got RC 58.4, and have never had any chipping problems, even cutting sheet rock.

i've been pretty happy with case in cv. you can still pick up made in usa schrade knives for good prices. good luck, ahgar

Just a tip instead of grinding down the tip to make it fit in the handle try filing down the kick instead. That always has worked for me and you don't loose any of your blade.
Another vote for Queen. Camillus has some too but I haven't tried them yet, Grandpa line.

I'd suggest Case in Chrome Vanadium. Some Ace hardware stores have a pretty good pattern selection at a reasonable price.

A couple of days ago I won a new in box Schrade peanut , 72ot , on e-bay for less than $17 dollars . Add $5.00 for shipping and it's a bargin that will last me a long time . I like Old Timers.
My wife carries a Case peanut with yellow scales and cv blades , it is also a good knife.

I just picked up the Case YH CV Peanut myself yesterday. It went to work with me last niight. It is a great little knife, or at least has been. I don't expect that opnion to change in the future..

there are lots of Schrade Old Timers, with carbon steel blades, advertised on eBay every day. You can probably get a new-old stock, made in USA 108ot,34ot or 8ot for $30,including shipping. These models are all 3 blade stockman type, ranging from the smallest to the largest.
Go here for Schrade information:

Just stay away from the new ones that Taylor is having made in China. Some ebay sellers wont tell you that their item was made in China.

I'll sell you a Schrade Founder's Edition 8 OT stockman that is still in the plastic package for $32 plus shipping. The knife comes with a collectors tin and also a money clip that says "Schrade Tough". If interested let me know.
