I'm 87% Scottish, Welsh, Irish, according to my DNA. I've always wanted a kilt.
I went to Scotland and traveled around with my son ten years ago. We saw kilts here and there. Mostly, a couple of weddings we happened to see, but there were some on the trails. That's what I kind of guessed; they were either a tuxedo, or for hiking. The tuxedo type was very strict, like all tux ensembles, with little jackets and vests, you've seen them.
On the hiking trail, they appeared with hiking boots, packs, and grubby t-shirts. They looked cool, rugged and comfortable.
I just ordered a utility kilt (One with big cargo pockets) in the Scottish National Tartan. It's the closest to my own Island McDonalds.
Anybody heaved up the gonads enough to wear one in public?
I honestly don't know if I can do it. I'm going up to my cabin in Washington the end of Sept. I'm taking it. I'll do some private hiking, but I'm wearing running shorts.
