Well it was the end for an awesome pet this weekend. He lived to just shy of 12.

RIP Tarr

Never easy to lose a family pet. They are really a member of the family not just a pet. I hope Tarr is having fun chasing balls wherever he is. May the empty place in your family and heart be filled once again.

Sunlight streams through window pane
unto a spot on the floor....
then I remember,
it's where you used to lie,
but now you are no more.
Our feet walk down a hall of carpet,
and muted echoes sound....
then I remember,
It's where your paws would joyously abound.
A voice is heard along the road,
and up beyond the hill,
then I remember it can't be yours....
your golden voice is still.
But I'll take that vacant spot of floor
and empty muted hall
and lay them with the absent voice
and unused dish along the wall.
I'll wrap these treasured memorials
in a blanket of my love
and keep them for my best friend
until we meet above.

I am sorry about your loss, but what joy a lab brings.

Sending smoke up from the Boreal Forests. Pets provide unconditional love, very sorry to hear about your loss.

Labs are such troopers; as companions, they will prove to you on a daily basis that life is really worth living, no matter what. Always happy and ready for anything.

A dog with great character, you can tell.

Get a pup soon and make another life long friend, Fred

So sorry to hear about your loss. I see you have kids. I think it's so great when kids grow up with a dog in the house. It teaches them respect for animals, unconditional love, responsibility, and friendship. I'm sure Tarr is looking down and thanking you for all the wonderful years you gave him as part of your family!

I have 2 labs - a yellow and chocolate - and I am dreading the day we have to make the decision also.

The two replaced a cocker spaniel we lost to cancer at 10 1/2 years old.

Sorry for your loss - hope you get another one.

I'm with you. When my boy grew up and moved out I felt a hole in my life. I got Bart a chubby 8 week old lab to fill it. He's two now but everytime I hear a story similiar to yours it makes me dread when I too will have to say goodbye to my best friend.
