Its been two years of hard working the RC/ESEE-6 as my pack/beater blade. Its coating was looking like crap with all the wear marks from all the batoning I regularly do with this knife.
So today, I had a little extra time from getting off work early and decided to finally remove the coating. I still have some work to do if I really want to make it look pretty, but I like the look as is and despite its beautification, it will still be my primary beater/camp tool.
However, my 2-year old knife feels like I've just gotten a brand new one. Sometimes maintenance can be fun! I recognize the naked blade needs a bit more maintenance than the partly coated one. I'm pretty used to the maintenance drill on shiny tool steels. I did leave the coating under the scales and along the spine/belly at the handle. Nice thing, is the naked spine over the blade shoots sparks off a firesteel very well in its current form.
