Time Warner cable telephone sucks royal lump muck

We have had this crummy service for about 3 months now.

Twice in the middle of the night our alarm system has been activated. We, and probably others, have not had a landline telephone line fail since the 1970s. So our fancy burglar alarm goes off if the telephone line is cut. Your alarm system probably does this too, but you wouldn't know it because your landline phone never fails. Not with Time Warner!

When the cable goes out, like it does quite often, guess what? YOU CAN"T CALL TIME WARNER TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE THE PHONE ISN"T WORKING EITHER! The funny thing is the phone and TV don't always fail at the same time, but it's about 90% overlap.

Also, the sound quality is not as good. Just because the voices you hear are digital doesn't mean they are good. It's not bad, but it's not quite as good as a regular phone. The funny thing is those commercials where the guy keeps listening to the dial tone, and saying it's the same, are a lie because the dial tone is the most noticeable.

My Comcast cable phone has a battery backup. They tell me it'll go almost 24 hours if you don't make many calls. For a few extra bucks, they'll sell me a second battery that just slides into the second battery slot and doubles the backup time. But, I don't think I need it.

You shouldn't have to fix this problem yourself. Time Warner should take care of it.

But, a practical fix would be to go to a computer store and buy the cheapest UPS they have and plug your cable modem thingie box gizmo in through that. Even the cheapest one the computer store sells, the one that will keep a PC going just long enough to save your file and shut down, will keep the cable modem box running for days.

A UPS is a good idea anyway, but it's not a problem with power. TV turns on and lights are on, we just have no dial tone or cable signal. I forgot to mention no internet service either. All three will be out for several minutes, so it's not just a flicker problem.

Carl64,

I work for TW as a service technician. In our division in Wilmington, NC, we just launched Digital Phone service last year and went through a growing pain period in the first 3-4 months. How long has this service been in your area? Have you had any service calls at your address. If you call in with a No Dial Tone situation, we are dispatched at that time to come fix it, unless its late night and it is scheduled for the next day.

You say the phone and tv do not always fail at the same time, and that is due to the fact that they are working on different frequencies and if one of those is off, it would knock the phone out. If you use RoadRunner, then the phone and internet would be out at the same time if that frequency is having a problem.

Where do you live? I know how our managment staff responds to problems of intermitant connectivity, as it is a major problem for the customer. But to get any satisfaction, you will need to have us come and take a look, and try to resolve your problems. They won't just go away, it sounds like something just needs to be fixed.

We currently have over 12000 customers in our area that are using digital phone and while some have problems, that number is relatively low compared to the ones that do not.

I will be happy to try and answer any questions that you have, but I would suggest calling in and scheduling a service call. That may be all it takes.

Take care,

Andy

Thanks for replying Andy. The phone service is only a few months old (maybe 3 or 4, but I didn't set it up so I'm not sure), but unfortunately our TV service has been wacky for years. We will call and see if they can get the phone sorted out better than the TV.

Hi All-

I think that's intended as an insult, but I'm not certain.

The funny thing about words is you can never really be sure. There are so many ways to interpret something. We may never know the real truth.
