i recently passed the 4 decade mark...

with this passing, things tend to get viewed in a different light altogether...

things which were once outrageous seem perfectly normal...

and so it is with my swisschamp...out of all the knives i've carried...it all comes back to the dream (and invincibility) of the swisschamp...

it, for me ,is the ultimate knife...(tool)...without a doubt...

any takes?

Glad you found your ultimate SAK. I still haven't. I don't like the weight of the thick ones, 3 layers max. I like my Vic Climber but I wish I could replace the corkscrew with a phillips screwdriver and the small blade with a nail file. Or if I could just add a saw to my Wenger Highland. Oh, well. So I have a few minimalist SAKs that I rotate on occasion.

i don't think it's all that easy...my friend...it's just that with everything as it is and with all the options we have nowadays...it's easy to justify one over the other...i'm talking about years, 20-30 to be in contention, ...victorinox?...of course...without a doubt!
swisschamp...champion...that's a knife!

SAKS rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had a few saks and you're right they rule, for what they are. my personal preference is for an electrician, soldier, farmer etc. I'm addicted to metal scales. great knives for the price. oh and victorinox rules, ahgar
for the ultimate ultimate get a sodbuster. right now.

As you get wiser, you'll hopefully learn to appreciate the ageless wisdom of a stark traditionalist!
Where "tasteless tacky" takes a final bow, and "the time tested" truly shines forever!
Besides, you got to be the right state of mind/wisdom, to appreciate the idea of what a "gentlemen's knife" is all about. Dress to fit the age, and definately not to hide it. Happy belated birthday, martino910.

Wish I was still 40. That was a while ago.
I used to favor the tinker myself. small enough to always be in the pocket so you have it when you need it. Got a couple of screwdrivers and a couple of blades. Wished the screwdriver blades had square corners. Went to a micra plus pocket knife because of that.

You would think that since most of victorinox's tools fit into nice neat size classes, it would be easy enough to offer a "create your own SAK" webpage online, where you drag different tools and blades onto the knife, reposition them to your liking, and then hit "Bill me and SHIP IT!"

I bet they could charge a premium for this and make a tidy little sum.

The Vic shop on the Cathedral square in Geneva did exactly that - bins and bins of handles and blades to knock together for your own custom knife.

Dad wouldn't buy me one, which in hindsight, is ok, because I would have lost it or something, and regretted it later in life.

I'm looking for a SAK in red G10 with S30V main blade about 4" - something along the lines of Strider tough. That would be the start of my dream SAK.

Hit the big 40 this year also, one of the knives I have held to the longest is a SwissChamp also.

For carry these days I refer the Super Tinker, it has a great balance of tools for it's size!

No matter what kind of traditional pocket knife I had in the pants, I had a tinker in a nylon belt pouch with asmall AAA flashlight on my belt. That tinker did alot of good work over the course of 20 years. These days I carry alox.
