Since John's Tin Knives have been going around again, I thought I would repost a kit I made using one of my Tin Knives.
I just put together this little fire kit built around one of Stomper's Tin Knives. All of the contents pack nice and neat into an altoids tin.
Open the lid, and you have the tin knife being held in place with two rare earth magnets epoxied into the lid of the tin. On top is a bundle of "shredded" jute twine. I just unbraid it and pull it apart into it's individual fibers. Makes a fantastic nest for an ember.
Under the shredded jute I have the goods. My tiny steel striker and tiny piece of chert I just recieved from tonym. Under that there are two jute bundles dipped in beeswax (not acutally dipped yet, I ran out of time so use your imagination) and an extra length of the jute twine.....and under the twine is a ferro rod I handled in oak and some char cloth.
Contents spread out
The Tin Knife held nice and secure in the lid of the tin.
The magnets that hold the knife.
