I wanted to buy a buddy of mine a nice quality knife for gardening use(his hobby). I was told that the TINA line of knives was the best. They are forged carbon steel with polished walnut handles and brass liners. Are these a much better knife worth the $70-85 or would Opinels suit the job just as well? Any owners out there? Opinions?
Thanks! Dave

My last brush with them was 15 years ago, and then they were a superlative knife. The Benz of pruning knives. Exremly nice finish and fit, and edge holding.
very strong construction. As a gift, I would be blown away by a Tina.

If it's any benchmark to judge by, William F. Moran Jr., a man who could make any knife he wanted, loved and used Tina pruning knives around his house and shop. Bill said they were the best pruning knives he ever used, and he collected and used alot of them.

jacknife: Thanks for the feedback! Sounds like that's the type knife I'll get him. He has been a friend since grade school. BTW, I'm in the Silver Spring area. A friend of mine hung out a lot at Bill Morans shop and he customized a large Opinel for me with a Moran convex edge. He also made a nice sheath for it. My friend was very fortunate to "apprentice" under Moran. Thanks again, Dave
