sorry if i am going about this wrong but for a school project i am trying to find some tinder fungus in wyoming and i have searched the internet like crazy and cant find if any grows in wyoming can anyone tell me if it does and around where? thank you

It grows on Birch trees. Don't know if you'll have any in Wyoming.

Are you looking for True Tinder fungus (Inonotus obliquus) or False Tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius)?

You can grow your own by planting some petroleum-jelly cotton balls and waiting about six to eight weeks for them to sprout. Fertilize at that point with naptha and char cloth, and mulch lightly with jute twine until the sprouts begin to form into horse's hoof shaped fungi. Fencing made of 1/2" square wire cloth to a height 8+ ft will keep away nuisance pests such as rabbits, chipmunks, and bladeforumites :)

seanystrangle,

I'm not sure if this will help or not but where I find them is growing on Birch, as most of the other people have said, but also on birch that is down in a bottom near a creek. Almost all the tinder fungus I have found on birch has been within 50 to 75 yards of a creek.

I don't know if this is coincidence or whether an environment with a lot of water and humidity fosters the growth of the fungi.
