TiNi coating care?

I find the black Titanium Nitride coating on some blades to be very pernickety to keep clean looking. Plain soap and hot water seems to dry it out, and unevenly so, leaving it looking parched and blotchy. Various oil-based products seem to do the opposite, making it look greasy and blotchy. Any tips about how to make it look nice and evenly conditioned? Many thanks.

Any type of light oil will work fine (Vegetable oil or mineral oil is a good choice for it if you cut food often).

Personally, I have developed a lack of care for how black it looks. In fact the more weathered it looks, the more I appreciate it. It is a personal preference thing, but once you let go of the superficial demons on your EDC you may even start to appreciate the look of a well used but functionally perfect knife.

To me, putting a lot of work and fuss into making a black blade look good is pretty counter-intuitive: I thought black coatings were designed to increase a blade's rust resistance and glare, not to look fancy ;)

I hear you guys, and I normally don't give a hoot about the finish on my daily carry knives, but I'm concerned about the appearance of the coating on blades that I'm selling.
