Tini Coating on Gov Tac and Daggert 2, Smooth or Chalkboard?

What is it supposed to be exactly? I have seen plenty of pictures of other Gov Tacs, Daggerts 1 and 2, and all the tini coatings are smooth. Even SOG's website shows a smooth, somewhat reflective coat. My new Demo has the same coat as I see in those pictures, smooth and pretty.

My Gov Tac and Daggert 2 are the black tini coated versions, yet they feel like a chalkboard. They do not shine or reflect anything. I bought both through Amazon directly and I see no sign of a counterfeit product. Can anyone chime in on what this coating is supposed to feel/look like? I don't care for this chalky, gritty feeling and the kydex is already wearing it some nasty marks.

As a child, I hated using chalkboards and a knife is supposed to be a tool that is an extension of your, ummm, soul (???) not a pet peeve of your childhood. :)

The images on the SOG site and floating around the net are of the original versions of the knives that had a more mirror like finish to them. The current production versions do have a dull black finish that is sort of chalk board like. This was done due to requests from uses for a more non-reflective coating.

Hope this clears up some confusion.

Hahaha, thanks Chris!! I hope you could see through the sarcasm, I am a huge fan of SOG, but hate chalkboards.

it'd be nice if SOG would at least make smooth tini coating and option. I bet it'll slice a bit better, and who cares if it's reflective? i doubt many of those who complained about the reflective coating have a need to stay hidden in the shadows.

I'd rather have a useful knife than a less useful "tactical" knife. I hate the word "tactical" in knife descriptions!

I too would rather see SOG focus on a few less blades with more options than several blades with very few options. I was thrilled to find the Seal Pup in a straight edged blade. I would love to see the Seal and Tigershark Elite/2.0 with a straight edge as well. I think every knife should be offered with a straight blade version as I am not a fan of serrations. I love the Demo, but the serrations are opposite the straight edge of the blade.

I wonder if scotch-brite would smooth out the chalkboard feeling of the daggert and gov-tac? I know it may not look good for the warranty, but I would probably get more use out of it.
