Random question to throw out there. Alright, so many "tacticool" knives come with some sort of black coating like Tungsten DLC or TiNi, but why do most people say Titanium Nitrate when referring to TiNi? I know for a fact that (Ti) is Titanium and (Ni) is Nickel, not Nitrate ([NO subscript 3] Nitrogen + 3 Oxygens)

1) "TiNi" an abbreviation made for the ease of pronunciation (and thus marketing). It's not meant to represent a chemical formula
2) TiNi coating is used for more than its black color. It gives the blade surface higher hardness and lower friction.

Edit:
Also, I think it's Titanium nitride, not nitrate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanium_nitride

I believe it is also just "TiN". At least that is the way it was spoke and written in the die trade! :)
