Will try and post up some pics in the near future. In the meantime I'll go with a description of what I've done.
This is a plain-jane model with the plain edge blade and no coating. First thing was to take it apart and void the warranty
From there I begin to polish the edges of the steel liners until I came out with a semi-mirror finish. The small cutouts were polished only across the top so that the "valleys" were left black.....gives a very nice contrast. My next job was to sand on the handles, black G-10 and green micarta, until they were smooth. I didn't really remove much material as I just wanted to get the handles smooth. I took progressively finer grits of sandpaper to the handles until I acheived the polished finish I was after. Again, looks nice and the grip is still firm to hold. While I had it down I took the axis bar, and using a small dremel tool, I ground the ends of the axis bar flush with the outer edges of the handle. Now they do not stick out and can't get caught on something and accidentaly unlock the knife. Don't really think that that would ever happen but had read where someone posted it to be a possibility so I took care of the possibility! I polished out the ends to a satin finish. The axis bar still works and is not really any harder to disengage than before. I also polished the screw heads to match the liner edges. With that all done I went to the blade. I have been hand polishing the blade with some very fine polishing compound and have gotten a real nice satiny, almost semi mirrored, blade finish. Of course I couldn't stop there
The final touch was to reshape the blade point so that I have a wharncliffish, backward tanto, curved razor, looking blade! Actually worked the final 1/4" of the point about 45 degrees. The result is quite striking and really changes the look of it more than I thought it would. I did the work slowly and with water to avoid any overheating. The back edge of the entire blade has also been sanded and polished up to 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper so it all looks factory with no mars or marks to mess with the looks. The point is very sharp and the edge cuts like a razor. It is especially good on those type of cuts a wharncliff style blade excels on.
So, that is where my Rukus is at this point. I'm really, really thinking about a set of the ivory micarta grips for it as they would really show off the satin/mirror polishing and contrast very nicely with the polished black G-10 bolster/grips.
Anyway, I'll try and post some pics real soon. Hope you like the read!
