Tiny knives

Despite "rain and sleet and gloom of night," USPS delivered a few knives in the past week. I was expecting a Schrade USA 104OT, but I wasn't expecting it to be so small! Another suprisingly tiny delivery was an Opinel No. 3 in carbon steel. Here are a few comparison shots with a Vic Classic knockoff and a Spyderco Bug.

I'm liking the 104OT so far, as it has enough handle to get a 3-finger grip, but the Opinel No. 3 is really more in the novelty category. Does anyone here have some comparably small knives, either for novelty or daily carry?

I have some that size and smaller. With some skill and patience, it might amaze you what you can do with a tiny knife. Including that Opie. I just skinned and butchered a deer this past week using an antique Imperial Topsey EO jack with a 1 1/4" blade. I have some knives much smaller though. And some novelty knives like tie clasps and one gold waldemar with an included mechanical pencil made by the Lambert Brothers jewelers in 1926. The smallest I have here at my desk is an Imperial novelty pen knife with a 1" blade. Somewhere I have one by Colonial or Ideal which is only 3/4" long. It likely came from a gumball machine or a box of Cracker Jacks back in the 1960's.

I have had a couple of tiny "keychain" knives in the past, but don't really like a lot of extras hanging off my keyring.

Now this Northfield Ladyleg is a small knife with its 3¼" frame and 2.3" main clip blade, but this Rough Rider stockman is 2¾" closed,
very slender, and with a 1.9" clip main and 1.5" secondaries. It is easily my smallest knife.

This one only measures 2.4" long when closed, fits well in the watch pocket, blades are super keen as they are almost zero grind bevels, exceedingly sharp, pearl covers, made back in the 1930/40's, neat little folder that still has great walk and talk and cuts ;) from a post I made a while ago here's the info they provided about this folder

PINE KNOT

A brand name of Belknap Hardware of Louisville, KY.

Goins says 1930 - 1940.

Some of the Pine Knot knives were, reportedly, made by Robeson.

Very nice watch that Gary!

I think the forthcoming GEC 09 Esquire might fit in this tiny category too.

Here's a couple of little fella's. The Imperial was my Uncle Cam's, it was his only pocket knife...
The little advertising knife is actually rather sharp, and has a decent amount of snap to it.

Every time I come in here I become further and further corrupted with the idea of little knives...

Is that metal one presunt size? Or how big is it?

Me too! Small knives are awesome, performing 90% of general purpose knife needs easily.

That's all I need from a pocket knife. If it handles most of what I need, then I'm happy. But then I've always been a fan of tiny objects that actually work at an intended task. A small knife opening mail, a mini flashlight lighting the immediate area, a small monocular letting you see that object better.

A friend of mine gave me an Opinel #3. She saw it in a store, and bought it for me, thinking it was just a novelty toy. I used it to open some plastic blister packed stuff for her. Wow. The blade so thin and sharp. I wish the little sizes had the locking ring, though. I'm afraid it will cut its way out of my pocket.

Here's a tiny Imperial:

I'm certainly going to try to acquire an Opinel 03, too cool. Right now I'm enamored with the Buck 309.

Why not go all the way down to a 305? :)
