Tiny knives?

I'm looking for recommendations for a quality small knife, around 1.5-2 inches. I want one with at least a semi-functional lock and one hand opening for less than 40 bucks. A small size when closed is also important.

This is just gong to hang out on my keychain for convenience purposes so I can still have a good blade when I can't carry a big folder; so please disregard any ideas of tacticality or "hard use".

The Spyderco Ladybug would be ideal, but I can't find it in plain edge.

Any suggestions?

How about the Spyderco Jester? About the same size as the Ladybug.

Another vote for the Jester. It'll have more than a semi-functional lock, too, seeing as it's a Spyderco.

I just gave my CRKT Peck to my sister. I miss it. Wickedly sharp and lots of gadget-factor.

I just bought two Jestes, both plain edge one in pink for the wife the other lime. Couldn't do better than these little knives. Tips are tough, not like the plain edge Mini-Dyad's blade. The colors are also a nice extra.:p

I didn't know the Jester was available yet, but it just became a contender. I am curious to know how well the small hole works for opening. Does it feel reasonably sturdy for such a small folder?

I am dubious of the KISS series knives simply because I would prefer to have a fully enclosed blade bouncing around in a pocket.

I was also looking at the Spyderco Dragonfly or Kershaw Chive. I did some searching and they both have a number of positive reviews here.
I would buy a Cricket in a second if I could get one without the odd "S" shaped blade

I would be especially interested in comparisons from those who have owned both the Jester and the Dragonfly.

Edit: I was checking online for Dragonflys and I can't find a retailer with them is stock. Did Spyderco discontinue them?

Perhaps the BM 330? I'm not sure of they are still being made, but they were sweet. They even did a small run with pearl scales.

I'd stay away from the folding KISS from CRKT. Even though I own a couple of other knifes from CRKT, and I have confidence that the blade would not open accidentally easily (i tried the knife.. very very stiff retention), still if you tinker with it and loosen the pivot or the retention screws (I think it has two screws, i'm not sure) it could open much more easily and could jab you in the leg or cut yourself.
I've no experience with spyderco but i'm confident with so many forumites backing it up it would be perfect.

Have you considered a fixed blade? i mean with a 1.5-2" limit a fixed blade wouldnt be that big or hard to carry, plus you wont have to worry about any moving parts that can break/wear out.

Spyderco Meercat, Navigator & Mouse are all small (2inch blade) knives that handle and cut like bigger knives.

The Kershaw Chive is great. Very well made, very sharp and the opening mechanism is addictive. But as a cutting tool it is less useful than the knives above because you get far less of a grip on it.

my suggestion would be the SOG sculptura...it's a bit bigger than the likes of the ladybug though...
another suggestion is the ss SOG gentleman...well made solid little knife..I think it's also available in carbon fibre..might be discontinued though

I just ordered a CRKT Neck P.E.C.K. for a small utility blade. I havn't received it yet, but it has a nice small blade and has no chance of folding up on my fingers:)

The CRKT Neck Peck is fine for most small tasks and has a great edge. The Wharncliffe blade enhances its utility. It's certainly not a keychain knife like the Delilah PECK, but it's a high-quality small blade at a very affordable price. The overall length of 6" (including sheath) may not appeal to you, but it's very narrow and extremely light. The Chive is also a great little knife; I just use the Neck Peck much more.

my jester is pretty darn amazing. very very solid lock, lots of good blade geometry. spyderco sharp, VERY light, and comfy in hand. i am a BOG fan of SMALL knives and it is the best one in my collection. i wouldn't mind a Ti version though ;)

but also consider the price, at around $25, this knife is a steal, and you just cannpt go wrong with one. get a jester and see ...

Love my Spyderco "Toad"! Built like a tank; unfortunately, it does not meet two of your qualifications - price and "key-chain-ability" (although you might be able to customize something using the screws from the clip)

I would go with either the Jester, Ladybug, or clipless Cricket. Don't be decieved by the Reverse S pattern. It is really quite functional!
