Tiny slipjoints: what other nuts beside peanuts?

I need some help with terminology and ideas.

I am looking to get a tiny traditional slipjoint. As a SAK person, I would say I am looking for a "single layer" knife, or basically two blades on the same back spring, and overall size comparable to Victorinox Classic. Basically thin and short, and inconspicuous even when wearing suit pants at work.

Peanuts are "two-layer" from what I have seen, so thicker than I would like.

I have actually seen knives like what I am looking for, but I do not know what such patterns are called, which is helpful for doing research online. What are they called?

Also, if you have model numbers and names from Boker and Case (or other quality options) with natural scale materials, please share. Thanks in advance!

From your description, it sounds like you're looking for some sort of penknife. They are available in many different varieties/sizes (about 2 1/2" to around 3 3/8") from pretty much every mfg. Here's a Case which is about 3 3/8".

P.S. You might also try looking at Senators, Eisenhowers, Tuxedos, and maybe even smaller Muskrats.

How about a Baby Butterbean?
Single spring, 2.75" closed length.
A real slicer!

Baby butterbean sounds interesting - thanks for the suggestion! I will look it up. Normally I am not a fan of canoes, but this small it must be adorable :)

Definitely look at Mini toothpicks.
They are 3" and made by many companies, so you can get them in from S&M Stag with SS, or Queen City in Delrin in Carbon, or a wide selection from Case
Goes very well in dress pants

Case make a nice small Stockman at 2 3/4" in Burnt Amber and rounded bolsters
It is small so at that size, a double spring does not make such a difference

Jason already posted details of the CASE Pen-Knife a particular favourite of mine.

However, Böker do various Pens as well and they are smaller than the CASE so you could try them.Carbon&stainless.

Try a Boker 240. It's a classic 'pen knife' with great fit and finish, and is available in rosewood, stag, or jigged bone. I had one years ago, and I loved how it would disappear in a pocket, but was 3 1/8 inches and big enough to handle 99% of what had to be cut.

The Buck Lancer is anothwer very small pen knife, with Buck's built in rugged construction and Bos heat treat.

Like was said, take a look at Case Eisenhowers.

Carl.

Just a note. I just ran a giveaway with a Baby Butterbean. It's a small knife.

One of the best things about a canoe pattern is, like the copperhead pattern the bolsters protect the pocket from the sharp edges of the blade shoulders. The shape of the canoe pattern feels good in the hand and the spear blade will grow on you quickly. It could easily turn into your favorite pattern. .... Or maybe not. But give it a try.

The mini-muskrat is another tiny little Case pattern, I can't remember if has one or two springs though. I think it may have two, but it's so little, I can't imagine anyone objecting to the thickness. The Eisenhower would be another good one to look at. The Tuxedo is a tiny little thing, but it's relatively long.

My favorite of the diminutive Cases is the small stockman. It does have two springs, but you get three blades in a package that's about the same size as a peanut. They're little jewels. The tiny trapper is very "peanut like", but with two full-length blades. You can get tiny toothpicks with two blades, but they have two springs as well.

If you don't mind something a bit more substantial, the GEC sleeveboard is a fantastic little knife. It has two blades on a single spring, can be had in carbon steel, is 3" long, and is built like the proverbial tank.

You're looking for this knife.

It is the Case Mini-Copperhead pattern, shown in stag above. Pattern #109. I have one similar to this one and just love it. It has 2 blades, but they are on opposite ends so there is only a single backspring (= thin). It comes in variety of handle materials, and is available with a clip point or wharncliff main blade. It weighs about 1.5 oz and is 3" long. Excellent little knife that you forget is in your pocket.

you can find these pretty cheap on the big auction site. They are in every way built like a larger knife anc can cut like the best of them.

I know it does not exactly fit your description, but I find the Case Tiny Wharncliffe Trapper to be inconspicuous in the pocket and it has enough handle to hold onto so you can actually use it.

If worse comes to worse, you can always go for an Alox Vic Classic? Thinner then a Plastic handled Classic, but still plenty of tool for it's size, AND it disappears in your pocket.
Just a suggestion.

I carried a Boker pen knife for a good year or more. Carbon and delrin. Rather pedestrian looking but they offer it in nicer handle materials. Very capable for its size.

Thanks for the good suggestions!

It looks like 3 1/8 inches is a size with many good options. I am interested to examine some Eisenhowers and the Case Mini-copperhead. Boker 240 looks good too, and I think I have played with one before, just did not know the model number.

Buck 309 Companion is an awesome little knife that cuts big. It is not quite small as a pen and not quite as large as a middle sized stockman. Thin single spring, pen an clip blade.

+1 on Buck 309 Companion. Check out Buck 305 Lancer. Both are superb!!!!!!!!!! And U.S.A. MADE
